First of all, what's up? I'm Low Emissions. I drive a '98 Dodge Avenger. Four cylinder. Minor fix-me-ups needed. No mods on vehicle unless you count the Pioneer deck I've put in the dash. So I figured if I'm going to be doing some things to my car, what better place than here to get advice and whatnot? Or am I wrong? o_0
Alright, so here's some of my current issues. #1) Broken door handle. --I hear it's a common problem on Avengers, and it gets really cold here in South Dakota (which is the reason it broke in the first place) so I wouldn't doubt if it happens again. Is there any way to reinforce the handles so they stay on better?
#2) Spoiler light fell out. --That's right. I shut the trunk the other day and the light along with about six inches of the wiring fell off and onto my bumper. Going to have to get that fixed...
#3) Randomized dome lights. --They only turn on when they feel like. Lately that's been most of the time, but it would be really nice if it was all the time.
#4) Leaky window seals. --Not in a normal car wash or in the rain, but if I go through the auto-wash I get splattered pretty badly. Will I need all new ones?
#5) Cupholder MIA. --At least I think it is. I've seen pictures of Avengers where there's a little cover over the cupholder, and my cupholder has these little tracks in it that tell me something should be there and just isn't. Can somebody point me to where I can get a replacement for this?
#6) This one is tough to describe... --The support bars from the dashboard to the roof are loose. Not the bars themselves, of course, but the little plastic jobs that cover up the wires and stuff are loose. It's really barely noticeable unless you're looking for errors in the vehicle, but it bothers the piss out of me and I think the one on the driver side is getting worse. I've tried to just push them back into place and they don't stay. How can I fix that so they stay where they're supposed to?
And that's pretty much it for now. The A/C doesn't work and the vents are squeeky sometimes among other little problems, but oh well.
So any advice would be appreciated, and don't forget to welcome me to the boards.

#1) There is a link somewhere in this section for an aluminum door handle, you might check it out. #2) Not sure I don't remember how it is held in... but it should be an easy fix. #3) Check the switches in the doors, make sure they aren't corroded or loose or anything, also check out the switch on the dome light, it might not be flipped all the way to door. #4) I had this same problem, I didn't worry about it, never leaked unless I was in an auto wash, specifically at the dryers. You will need to replace the whole seal if that is the problem, if your windows rattle when you close them you might take the door panel off and tighten them up. #5) Dealer, or wrecking yard or you can ask around here somebody might have a spare one. You might also try parts.com #6) Take them off and there should be little metal clips that attach to them that go into holes in the frame to hold it in place. When I pull mine off the clips usually stay in the frame of the car so I have to squeeze them and take them out and put them back on the (what are those called?) Post covers (that is my new name for them) then put them back on and push the post covers back into the holes. You should be able to feel them click into place. I will try to get a picture a bit later today, I need to fix a light in one of my gauges so I will be pulling mine off.
I hope this helps. Again Welcome, you have a fun car, but they can also be a lot of work. Very worth it though.
That happens, Darktengu. Speaking of you, the Avenger in your sig... is that yours? It looks pretty awesome.
About those gauges, Nykon (or either or you, for that matter)... At this link are the gauges that I prefer (_here_) But I don't see the overdrive and other covers like they show in this one (_here_).
Do you think that one comes with those even though they're not shown? Also, how difficult is it to install these things? Mind you, I know next to nothing about taking apart a vehicle and this is the first car that I'm going to try and mod, so I'm the type that is going to need a lot of help. Not just from you guys, of course, but from the people I know that may know how to do what I'm looking to pull apart.

Welcome to the site all these guys are great help. To answer your number one question and leave off where nykon left off redefinedrides.com is the place to get the aluminum handles. Although apparently he's having problems keeping up with demand. one guy said he ordered his handles in like august and didn't get them until january. I e-mailed them back about 3 weeks ago and haven't heard back yet. that's about all i'll be able to help with seeing as how I've not had any of your other problems. Feel free to ask us if you have any questions a lot of these guys have had there car for a while and know a lot about them.

#2) Spoiler light fell out. --That's right. I shut the trunk the other day and the light along with about six inches of the wiring fell off and onto my bumper. Going to have to get that fixed... The light is held on with two bolts on the retaining ring ...I'd guess the plastic studs broke...
#3) Randomized dome lights. --They only turn on when they feel like. Lately that's been most of the time, but it would be really nice if it was all the time. Another VERY common trouble ...The door switches are going bad ...Under $10 at parts store or dealer #4) Leaky window seals. --Not in a normal car wash or in the rain, but if I go through the auto-wash I get splattered pretty badly. Will I need all new ones? Common trouble also ...Tighten the adjustment on the window tracks ...

I've seen pictures of Avengers where there's a little cover over the cupholder, and my cupholder has these little tracks in it that tell me something should be there and just isn't. If adjusting the clips won't work you can mount them with a set of screws ...Just be careful the drivers pillar has wires running to domelight OR sunroof if equipped
