The fine print worries me.
AFX Computer 97 only Diamond Star
In the middle of the detailed description:
For model-year 2000 units: If you Neon is equipped with the securitymodule, you MUST supply the vehicle's complete, correct VIN with the order,we will flash this into the computer. If you're not sure - give us the VIN!Otherwise: NO START!
and at the end:
These computers take 4 to 6 weeks to program and are for the 97 cars only.
Not to mention:
Best results obtained with mild mods, such as: cat-back exhaust, cold-airintake, degreed-in stock or Crane #10 cam grind, etc. But no modificationsare required to obtain significant performance gain. You'll feel thedifference!- Typical flywheel HP increase 9 - 23 HP (depending on other mods, beyondthis you need the race-only unit)- Fuel economy may be BETTER than stock.- Requires 92 octane fuel (at altitudes up to 4,000 ft.) or octane booster-
More performance rarely gets you better gas mileage, and my fuel economy will be better than stock if I am using 92 octane with my stock ECM. Not to mention better performance. I also don't consider a new cam a minor mod.
and then...
Warning: at the RPM this unit is capable of, you should have uprocker arms / lash adjusters (DOHC), and stiffer-than-stock valve springs toprevent valve float and resultant damage!
Find lash adjusters for the 420A head. I dare you.
I may be wrong, it has been known to happen, but I would not recommend this product based on my knowledge. I would think with its amazing adaptability you would be able to slap one of those on with a turbo and save yourself a lot of trouble in seperate fuel and ignition management systems that are recommended when you boost a 420A.
