V6 TURBOS..or not?
« on: June 11, 2006, 09:58:48 PM »

One of my friends that owns a 'stang (99 I believe) was just telling me that this place the name he forgot...makes turbos for our cars...he said they also make performance parts and such for tiburons, but I found it hard to believe. he also said something about it being the same turbo for the stratus R/T and it could fit our cars, I thought it was worth checkin out and I went on ebay to see if i could find anything, these are the links I came up with:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Dodge-Stratus-R-T-V6-Ripp-Tuners-Package-01-up_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33741QQitemZ8073248483QQrdZ1QQtcZphoto
I think he may have been talking about the 4 cylinder..but he knows mine's a six and he said six so im not sure...anyway..what do u guys think?

It just looks like a RIPP SC to me.  I don't think that they are just plug and play for the Avenger's 2.5 though.  Look for Sroufe and Burn504 for answers to that over on the other site.

exactly. he must be talking about the ripps supercharger. not plug and play for us. the whole maf/map sensor etc etc. it's not as easy as it may sound. that's why only burn and sroufe have actually done it, AFAIK.

So what kind of modifications are we talking here? I just wanna know what would have to be done, not just a simple overview but something specific, and how much extra cash it would cost. I mean, do those guys think its worth it after all the work?..if so...Im thinkin I should go ahead and try.

Has to be somthing like this...
custome fabricated parts:
drive system
crank pully
intake piping
plus you have to trick the computer, so it doesn't read the boost...  It's a lot harded than you would think...  You can't just wipe something up.  Talk to gdino on asog...

Scott
That's Sroufe7's post from 2003, nothing has changed.  The RIPP kit just isn't made for our 2.5 engine bays.  You have to get the parts and pieces for the S/C then modify a few things.
I am not saying that it can't be done, I'm definitely not saying that it's not worth the time and effort.  I'm just letting you know that there are things that need to be done to accommodate the S/C hardware in our little bays.

so the computer reading the boost = blown tranny? and yeah..there's not much room in the engine area...which makes for a lot of weight...i dont get how some cars have so much room and ours have none whatsoever!...o by the way..I should take some pics of my engine bay and post it...where the filter is in that pic, I have nothing really..just the intake pipe due to my intake..I"ll take a pic of that setup also and post it..Its an ok setup..I just wanna get the input of the board on it.

If the ECU reads the boost, it sees it as a lot of air coming in and it will try and compensate by adding fuel.  N/A ECUs just aren't good at controlling fuel when you add too much air past it's threshold.  That's why there are SAFCs and the likes, they control the fuel and trick the computer into seeing in and around it's threshold so that you're not constantly fighting to keep a AFR of 14.5-14.7 at idle/half throttle and 11.1-ish at WOT.
There's a little bit of room in our bays...for a very built I4, lol.  You're right though, the 2.5 is shoehorned into there.  Oddly there is still room, just not a lot and to add stuff into an already cramped area is not easy.
The driveshaft of the S/C has to be accommodated for too...it's pretty long from what I understand.  The 3g Eclipse and whatever gen the 2dr Stratus is, just has more depth than our bays, not much more, but enough.

Belts
Intake piping
Relocating the fuse box

A few other things also...

DAMN!..i mean..i kno u got 3.0 in there..but the manifold looks a bit different than what I usually see..I guess it depends on the car the engine came from. also, the fusebox wouldnt be much of a problem for me as I've moved it around a bit...not to another spot..just fiddled with it and its somethng i could do myself no problem. if the 3.0 fits so tight..imagine the 3.5..that'd be a bitch...Ill just have to wait till my engine runs out of its charm then take advantage of whatever's out there..That's pretty nice..but ur right...its waaay more than im able to handle right now..but I'll def keep it in mind. looks real nice...and one q...im lookin for headers and a downpipe..any chance u could help me on that?

The supercharger bolts up to the 2.5 the same it does to the 3.0.

The blocks and heads are the same on the outside.

I sell downpipes...but no headers.

Scott

edit...my plenum is a custom one...but the stocker would work just fine.

I sell the downpipes for $210 shipped within the US with new gaskets.

I also sell direct fit high flow converters for $100 shipped with new gaskets.

Thanks
