Help upgrading rotors and exhaust system
« on: February 15, 2006, 06:00:55 PM »

Hello everyone  Grin I been looking for a lot of time the best rotors and muffler for my car. I have a 1996 Dodge Avenger ES, V6 2.5. I was thinking buying a flowmaster and brembo rotors. But I got friends that tell me that apexi is better choice over flowmaster. I buyed a Weapon R secret weapon intake and I really want to put the best parts to my car. What can you recomend me? Thanks

AEM  makes a big brake kit for the 95/99 eclipse bolts on ,uses larger rotors but stock caliper ...You can upgrade to Eclipse GSX or mits 3000 brakes for dual pistons ....

I like Flowmaster personally. I've had one on both Avengers I've owned and really like them. HP wise don't expect much of anything especially with the V-6. You can fairly cheeply (around $300) order the full Powerslot rotor upgrade (4 pads, 4 rotors) from www.exileracing.com

But if you insist on getting larger rotors, the GSX upgrade will be the least expensive way to go. You'll need the front rotors from a mitsu GSX as well as the calipers. That's the really expensive part. I couldn't locally find GSX calipers for less than $110 a piece!! Rear rotors will be the stock size for our cars.

with just the gsx swap you will be fine down to 16s, smaller than that and i'm not sure.
for the aem big brake kit you'll need at least 17s.

Go to 3si.org and signup.  Make a post in the WTB forums.  Say you need all your parts from a N/A Stealth or 3KGT.  Say you need all four rotors, 4 calipers, 4 caliper brackets, 2 brake line connectors and all the brake lines off the setup.  The 3KGT upgrades your stock from 9.1 inches to 10.1 inches and you go from a single piston caliper to dual piston Shocked.  You should be able to find all the parts reasonably for around 150ish or less.  As for exhaust, You could do the Bosal system which you can find on Howellautomotive.com, or you can wait for the Exile exhaust which shouldn't be much longer at all.  IMO the best idea is the Exile Catback seeing as it will be fitted perfect for our cars and will most likely be tuned to sound perfect on an Avenger/Sebring.   Grin

You're set, now be free my son and mod you're little heart out!  By the way, give me points!!!  I'm in teh negative....   Undecided

Just to clarify, I recently checked up on this, AEM doesn't make the brakes anymore, they sold the designs to Powerslot. You can get them on summit racing now. $160 for the slotted/plated big fronts. ($80 each) $200 for the slotted/plated big rears ($100 each) $120 for the cross-drilled/plated big fronts ($60 each) and $180 for the cross-drilled/plated big rears ($90 each)...

Those prices don't make sense to me but it's what they are.

You are better off using GSX rotors and calipers, then you don't have to change the brake lines.

You can buy a loaded caliper from most part stores and try to sneak your stock calipers in for the core charge.  I paid $100 for calipers, powerslot rotors and metal master pads.  Check out...
