another ECU question
« on: May 15, 2006, 12:45:52 AM »

I have a 96 2.0L automatic and my ECU #05269811. Does anyone know if you can use an ECU with a different # as long as its for a 96 2.0L auto?

It should work as long as its the same motor and tranny.  Your best bet however is to go to the dealer and get it flashed with the updated programming.  I have noticed that the 96's had a ton of ECU problems and they do have a TSB to address the issue involving reprogramming.  A lot of the time you won't need an ECU but just to have it reflashed with the update.  There should be stickers on the ECU itself or on the door jamb saying if it has been updated.  If you aren't sure I can post a picture of the stickers.

Hey, my bad for jumpin in but am I to understand that some ECU's are programable and some are not?...  I have a 95 venge built in april '95... does that mean anything to me?  It had a rebuilt motor put in last January but i'm not sure if the ecu was reprogrammed, what do the stickers look like? I see one small white rectangle sticker with red lettering top and bottom and a series of numbers printed in the middle.  <---- does that mean anything to me?

haha hope you can understand all that...
