need advice with parts
« on: May 14, 2006, 01:09:07 AM »

hey guys, i'm very new to this car...as a matter of fact i have no experiance with this type of car or motor at all.  I know enough about motors just not this one.  So i have a bunch of stuff i'd like to order but thought i'd run it past you guys first.

I'm thinking about ordering everything i can from either partstrain or drivewire and picking some other stuff up from advance autoparts unless you guys have had bad experiances either of the mail order places?  Here goes:

it need rotors bad, but i'm checking into ebay drilled rotors
denso oxygen sensors
felpro intake and valve cover gaskets
fram pcv
borg warner cap and rotor
bosch plugs 4301
fram fuel filter
gates timing belt kit

I'm thinking it's going to need a new exhaust system as well, from the manifold back including the cat.  Any one have a recomendation for finding a stock replacement or aftermarket(cats to).

Well let me know if those brand names sound good if there is a better part out there.

As long as i'm asking questions to......what rims fit on this 95?  do eclipse/talon rims fit?  what about stratus?  any other rims fit?

THANKS A LOT for the time guys

looks like a good list. everyone's opinion is to stay away from bosch oxygen sensors. although i have had one in for a couple years apparently i got lucky.
if you get a valve cover gasket just make sure it comes with the donuts for the plugs. i think most do except the real cheap ones.
i bout a pcv valve from autozone and it fell apart when i took it out of the box. got one from advance auto and it was fine, don't remember the brand.
as long as you are replacing the plugs you should replace the plug wires. i prefer ngk coppers but it's up to you. just have to replace coppers more. accel thundersports are great wires butnot cheap.

for the exhaust i'd go downpipe. i'm not a big fan of high flow cats for near stock cars, so i'd just get a stock replacement. high flow muffler is up to you. that's all you really need. the stock piping is stainless. unless you want to go cat back.

and yes and 95+ eclipse/talon/stratus rim should fit. there are a lot of rims that fit our cars. just look for 5x114.3 rim with something around a 42mm offset. not positive on teh offset though.

thanks a alot.  I didn't know the stock exhaust was stainless...i could've wasted a bunch of money on that.  I think the felpro gasket kit is a rubber gasket that does include that plug donuts to.  I forgot about the wires to...thanks

well let the fun begin

i just ordered from partsandaccessories.com:
Denso Oxygen Sensor front
Chilton Repair Manual
Denso Oxygen Sensor rear
Taylor Cable Spark Plug Wire
Felpro Intake Manifold Gasket Set
Felpro Valve Cover Gasket Set
Eastern Catalytic Converter

And then i ordered the Techna Fit Red 4 Brake Line kit from Horsepowerfreaks.com

I still need some more stuff like the pcv, brakes, cap, rotor, fuel filter and plugs.  But i think i'll get those from Advance auto.

Sounds like a good start  Grin How many sensors did you buy? If youve got the 2.5L then your gonna need 1 more of each sensor. Were you getting a service engine light at all?

oh crap....are you saying this thing has 4 o2 sensors?Huh  it only has 1 cat right?

The SES light blinked for a coarse of a couple minutes when i was driving it, but then never came back on.  It failed emissions though, so i figured i might as well replace the o2's and cat.  Maybe even get better MPG with it to.

yep, on the 2.5L theres 4 total,  2 upstream sensors and 2 downstream sensors. Upstream rear is on the rear exhaust manifold, upstream front is in the downpipe after the front collector. Both downstream sensors are right next to each other, right after the collector for the rear bank
