My car is an I4 5-speed has no catalytic converter on it and a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. Its deep sounding at idle and when you give it some throttle it's really raspy (but not with a ricey tone) sounding and it pops and crackles when you shift or let off. Doesn't sound ricey to me, it just sounds wild (I don't know how else to explain it).
I was just wondering..How do you pass inspections without the converter?..or do they not apply that in your state???

Removing the resonator shouldn't make a difference in emissions testing. It will just sound like crap.

I was considering the header and exhaust (made by comptech) for my TSX, but I'm afraid of making it sound horrible.

those are the things that toy with the sound to make it better....or worst if you completely remove them

what I meant was..its that um...i dont know how to say it..but it has all those holes that "breaks down" the sound waves. removed..its almost like NOT having a muffler at all.

it's easy to remove, just get a straight piece of pipe welded in place.
i wouldn't do it though. a resonator is designed to cancel out the most annoying or harsh frequencies.

We have a friend with an inspection license lol. We don't have emissions testing in central PA, but they're supposed to look to make sure your emissions equipment is still there. A couple years ago (when I had it done), I don't even think they bothered doing that

that's not quite what i was asking. we can't run a straight pipe here in dallas or they will fail you at emissions testing. i guess maybe the resonator you guys are referring to and the glass packs i am talking about are two different things? my b/f was able to make his pipe sound so much thoatier and deeper by getting it really hot and shooting cold water in it to break up the glass packs. well, that does not seem to work for my pipes. it sounds really good after the water, but after it dries out, back to normal quiet pipes. that is what i was asking. is there another way to make them sound a little more beefier? i love the look of them, but they don't sound very mean at all like they look.

bryan i see you are not far from me. if you have a v6 you may want to take a listen to my car. flowmaster 40 and ert downpipe. sounds damn nice IMO.

tig, i think we were talking bout different things. the resonator that comes stock on our cars is only there to kill annoying exhaust frequencies. nothing to do with emissions. do you have glass packs and a muffler or only glass packs? and do you have an aftermarket downpipe, an ert downpipe really gave my exhaust that deep, rumble. that was after i had a flowmaster 40 installed.  really opens up the sounds.
