Stock unit powers on with no sound
« on: April 30, 2006, 12:12:31 AM »

My friend just got a 98 Avenger, the head unit powers and you can see radion stations tuned but there is no sound, same thing when we try to play a tape. we tried replacing the head with my old head unit from the sebring I had, but same problem, powers on with no sound. I think the Avenger has the infinity stock amp in the back between the 2 rear speakers in the trunk. everything seems to be hooked up right. any Ideas?

Did you check fuses?  The amp could be dead.

Where are the fuses for the amp? if the amp is dead how can we by pass it and just hook up the speakers straight up, or what kind of replacement amp is recommended.

Replacement amp is dependant on how much money you're looking to spend.  Under the hood there is a fuse box, and under the driver side dash.  bypassing is just matching wires on the two sides of the amp.  You'll have a couple left over, but just match up the colors.

well...if the unit powers on..it's obviously getting power...no sound...means your speakers arent receiving ANYTHING. whatever you have between your speakers and your power source is your problem. Your wires..or if its your amps sure, check them, like tengu said, maybe a fuse and would be A LOT easier than bypassing. If not your fuse though....wouldnt it be easier to just...disconnect them? think about it. the person probably traded their car in because they couldnt fix it. They probably werent to electronically inclined. you could also check your amp wiring for a short. Im not saying that's what it is though.. im just saying

There is a large red wire on the amp It should have 12 volts (power)....also a white wire with silver or black dots should have 12 volts(remote)

ok well i know the exact awnser to this problem.......i have a 98 avenger also with the infinity system and it appeared i hooked everything up right.....well turns out i dont hve a pwoer antenna so i taped that wire off right didnt think anything of it.....searched and searched well finally i figured ou that the power antenna wire is ALSO the remote on lead for the stock infinity amp! crazy weird but it works......you werent getting sound cuz the amp wasnt being told to turn on......hope you understood that.......to simplify hook the power antenna wire from your harness to the remote lead wire on your deck that will cause your infinity amp to turn on and make noise lol hope that helped
