My mom says that at low speeds, the engine and trans works perfectly fine, but now when she goes high speed (sounds about 50+)
the engine will rev very high (way more than normal crusie @ 65) and she says it feels like the transmission doesn't shift into the last gear (due to the high engine revs) near the red line, which we know isn't too good.
I'm here in NYC and she's out of state right now, so i can't hop over to look at the car. But even if i could i wouldn't really know what to look for/begin.
I thought maybe it was a loose connector, b/c she says that the Check engine Light is on.
a trans problem shouldn't trip that, from what I know

I am guessing that has already been done but it never hurst to post the obvious. After that, find out when the last time the tranny filter was changed, if it is clogged it could definitly cause that problem.
Yeah, tranny fluid may need a flush or may need to add more and may have a leak...ok nykon ..what's with everything having to do with a fluid??..but then again....
wait, you want me to pee into the transmission? But if my urine is red..... :EEEEK!!!!:
anyway, gonna check it all out tomorrow. I'm here, my mom is in CT, so I'm driving out and will check that stuff before going to the shop. last thing we need are more bills

kikazz, how many girsl do you know named Doug? (please say none)
anywho, I test drove it this weekend, and it would rev up going 20 mph straight, so yeah, something wierd is going on. It's at a shop, and hasn't really been looked at yet, so we don't know what's going on. I'll keep you all updated.

actually i know about three..and they're all hahah im just kiddin ya . I wanted to make sure it was understood that I was playing on words...guess it didnt come across how I had planned....
the samething happened to a good friend of mine, he has a 97 monte carlo, and often times on the highway it would not shift, he changed the tranny fluid and filter and it worked fine for about six months-but now it's dead-if you haven't tryed it yet it's worth a shot.........
If your transmission has high mileage and has never been flushed, you might as well just leave it alone. The dirt in the fluid is the only thing holding it together!
high mileage? No, I think it has around 60K on it!!! they rarely use it. they have a beater honda accord from 1989 to putz around in. Now that thing is rusting, has been in unknown accidents, had the cable wire for the clutch get BURNT and CUT by RADIATOR FLUID (I know this as I was driving uphill when it happened), etc.
and it's running strong (uh, after the ENTIRE exhaust rotted out and fell off the car from engine block to tail pipe, ahahahahahahah  ) Why she still runs? NO IDEA
