Hey look what I found...thank ebrammer for this:

no, the galant engine is a go, but the tranny is a no.  The CPS will have to be 'ghetto-rigged' up in there as well as you will have to heavily modify the frame to fit the transmission, best bet IMO is go to exile and pick up their built tranny, slap a cooler on it with a shift kit and stratus gears, put the 3.0 in and you'll be happy.  Remember manny's may be more fun to drive but under boost a computer can shift faster = less boost lost.

The reason that you can't put in another transmission is because of the front axle I believe.. Theres not enough room.. If your interested in fixing that problem, youd have to do a complete drive train swap in order to fit in another transmission..

Im not to familiar on the drivetrain information, so maybe another member here can explain that, and how it would have to be setup.. But regardless it sounds like a bitch.. I know an asec member did do a 3.5l v6 5 speed swap.. But I don't think all the details were released..

Things needed for the swap

5speed trans
Master and slave cylinders
Shifter cables
Shifter...ext...
custom axles
custom mounts
notch the frame rail
need to figure out the crank sensor (V6 autos are on the bellhousing and read off the flexplate)

even if ert finishes and can sell the relocator (worry free of returns) for the sensor, you still have a ton of modding that sroufe7 already mentioned. one guy did all the work of a 3.5l mated to a 5 spd tranny and the tranny was bad but apparently with a new trans it should drive. you need a lot of time money know hwo and patience to preform that. but the 3.0 swap isnt rocket science if you are some what of a mechanic
