Iv'e got trouble! I got codes 12, 22, & 44 from the 3 key on cycle thing. Well, the car just dies for no reason all the time but will start right back up. Yesterday it died and I started it back up and my engine light & battery light was on. So I checked the codes and got these. Well, now my rpm's go up and down by itself. Can anyone help?
If you look at the top of the page there is a little link that says "CEL Codes" under Latest FAQ's. The first one is just saying that your battery has been disconnected within the last 50 key cycles, the second code is saying your Coolant temp sensor is most likely bad, the third one is battery temp volts out of limit... the solution says replace PCM but I am not sure that is right, I think you always get a code 44 with the keydance... I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong.
The bad coolant sensor might account for the wierd RPMs. The code 44 would account for that and might actually be the case and I was wrong because the voltage is regulated by the PCM in your car and if the PCM went plooey then that would explain it.
I had rpm problems that turned out to be the throttle position sensor, but no code came up for it. All I did was start wiggling sensors until the problem occurred or stopped.
Well, I went to auto zone today and had them use the scanner on my car. All they found was that my coolant sensor was bad, so I ordered one. That seems reasonable because I'm not getting any really hot heat like I used to. Anyway, when I do the key dance it still shows code 44 which is (Battery temperature volts out of limit). What does that mean? Do I need a new battery, alternator, pcm, or a new Avenger?
Thanks, I planned on taking it back to Auto-Zone after I install the new coolant sensor and have them run the codes again. I'll have them run a battery and alternator test also.
Not tyring to Hi-jack your post but i have another queation. I am entirely familiar with the "key dance" process. I am ASE certified so i am not entirely oblivious to trouble shooting and diagnostics. With that said, whenever performing the ignition cycling procedure i get no response. Is there a valid reason for this? Keep in mind i can connect a generic OBD2 scan tool and link, read, and erase codes as needed. Its just a pain in the a$$ when it comes on on Friday and i have to wait until Monday to read and erase the codes at work. Anyone got any ideas?(I know you're thinking "Why don't you just go to Autozone and have them read the codes for you", the answer is simple.Thats where I work and I try to spend as little time there as possible)
