Looking for Sub and Amp suggestions
« on: April 19, 2006, 01:41:41 PM »

I upgraded my system on an impulse yesterday.  I added a very nice JVC head unit, Rockford Punch 3.5" tweeters (pain in the ass to get in!), and Infinity R-type door and 6x9 speakers.  -- and since my JL 12in sub finally blew after 8 years, I hooked my 250 watt Kenwood amp up to my two Rockford 8's.

Sounds great, but now I need the bass.  Any suggestions on a nice Sub and Amp.  I think I want to stick with just one 12in and use my old box.

Thanks.

Just in case anyone doesnt know, Rockford Fosgate is now a Wal-Mart brand. Meaning it is built very cheap and is not very durable. If you want Rockford, I suggest looking for a Punch Power HX2 12" subwoofer. I had two of these in my car and it hit HARD!

Not a fan of Rockford.  I push Alpine R-types heavily, but Infinity Kappa Perfects are crazy, and SoundStream also pump.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

I went ahead and got the JVC head, Rockford Punch 4in tweeters,  Alpine R-Types 6" door speakers, Alpine R-type 6x9's, a Rockford Punch P3 12" sub powered by a 600W Alpine mono amp.  I also have my 250W Kenwood amp pushing my two Rockford 8's.

Sounds pretty damn good.

Kicker L7's or JL Audio W6's are my top pics. I havent had the chance to hear Alpine subs yet. I'll put that on my to do list.

Image Dynamics has about the best sub goin right now.  I've heard one beside a JL w7 and I have to say i might acually like the ID better.  Specifically an ID vMAX 12 in sub, they make all sizes.  The design has been the same for over 5 years and these things rock.  They are 1000w rms but rated for 2000w rms peak so go nuts. I have one hooked up to a 500w RF Power D-Class amp  (0nly half it's rated power) and it sounds great.  I've also hooked it up to a RF 100 w old school amp and it sounds great with low power too.  You can find em for under 400 canadian dollars.  I personally run a JL w6 v2 and I love that.

As for amps, MTX, Pheonix Gold, RF all make solid amps as resonable prices.  If you have the money then get a JL amp (voltage regulated and all that) or an orion.
