Another PCM question..
« on: April 18, 2006, 02:22:19 PM »

Is there any reason a 97 or 98 pcm wouldn't work in a 96 avenger? The problem I am having is supposedly rampant in 96 models, so I was hoping a computer from a later model might increase the chances of fixing it.

What exactly is your problem? I have a 96 with complex problems so maybe we could help each other out?

here is a link to the topic where I originally explain my problem. Its in the general questions and problems forum, page 2.

Basically no new solution has been offered, other than get a new pcm. I dont really care if it works or not, I'm really just spending the $200 required to obtain an emission waiver. But several people I've talked to said this year (96) and engine (420a) combination have this problem a lot. I figured theres a better chance of it working if I order a 97 or 98 pcm. But I want to make sure my car will run okay with one of these years.

from what I understand it depends on the part number of the ECU that you have. For instance my ecu is 5269811 and appearently that is a "96 only" ECU.so check with a local dealer and then soom non-local dealers to see if you get the same story. Don't be afraid to ask to talk to there techs either, usually they will let you.
