I'm almost 35 years old and I have never bought a new car as of yet. I will buy this one when it comes out. The Challenger has always been my dream car (old one) but chances are I will never be able to afford that so this one will have to do.

Took this pic last week at the 2006 Woodward Dream Cruise. This was the best car I saw the whole day it was very very clean! Notice it has a 2005 6.1 HEMI Engine with the AC system hidden on the bottom side of the engine. Very nicely done!

Problem fixed!! It was the torque convertor bolts. They were all loose now tight and have loctite on them.

MY buddy called me and told me he had some bad news and we needed to have the trans dropped to replace the flywheel. He had allready made it clear he wasnt going to do that earlier in the day. Next thing I know he's like Im just messin with ya its all fixed and the best part he only charged me 40 bucks to do it. Great price considering you need to remove that crossmember to get at it all.

Im happy again!

Thanx for all the suggestions.

i thought high stalls were better for the tranny? Huh

for performance they are. Under slightly hard acceleration my rpm's go over 4000 before it shifts making for a hard shift but nice kick. I like it but if i am going to have to remove  the trans  I prefer to go with something as little more fuel effficient. Driving this car I spend over 400 a month in gas to go to and from work.

good luck with that, at first i thought it was engine knock, but i'm pretty sure it wouldnt dissapear after being warmed up. so i'm guessing somethings definately loose,  and we do have rougher idles when the engine is cold so that's explain why it disappears. whatever you do, make sure someone trustworthy looks at it...

Thanx the mechanic that said what the problem was a has a great rep he has over 25 years in at the dealership and is their only heavy engine trans repair tech they have. They have one other that does motors and the rest are general repairs. My neighbor has been in the auto repair / race car modding for over 20 years as well I trust he will do me right even if we need to pull the tranny. One thing if the trans needs to be pulled I will be removing the high stall convertor I have and putting the normal one back in . I think it will help to save on some gas and uneeded wear and tear on the tranny. My neighbor is giving up going to the Woodward Dream Crusie tommorrow just so he can get this done for me tommorrow. Nice guy  Smiley

Took the car to a dealer I used to work for and had a buddy mechanic look at it and his first reaction was flexplate. He said I may be lucky and it will only be loose bolts but somehow I doubt that. I have another buddy going to look into it this weekend lets hope for the best!

If you want to here the file you have to install quicktime.

Reason I say engine noise is because it is definately coming from the engine. It dosent sound like a lifter noise to me. It at times sounds more like the front side of the engine is where the noise is coming from but if you stand at the front of the car it sounds like it is coming from the lower end. It is very misleading to me.

Weird part is it does sound like a heatshield but a heatshield wouldnt be sensitive to the temp of the motor. When this started I was running 5w 30 synthetic oil. I changed the oil to 20w50 and the noise didnt get any quieter. At idle the oil pressure sits about midway on the stock guage and at 60 mph it is 3/4 of the way up the gauge near top of safe zone.

When I am coming to a stop and the engine is approaching idle speed it rattles like crazy, put in neutral and it almost cant be heard. If I put it in reverse the noise appears to be gone.

Car starts every day and runs fine so this noise is very frustrating and make me nervous about driving it for the fear it is something serious.

Please if anyone has any ideas help ! I am getting tired of driving an old Saturn SL with no air in these hot temps we are having. The Avenger has ICE cold air and has been known to frost the windshield at times.

Thanx!

Hello,

I have a 1997 Avenger with 107,000 on it. A few weeks ago I developed a rattle noise in the engine that I cant seem to figure out where it's coming from. When the car is cold it make the noise for a brief second then goes away until the engine is fully warmed up . Seems the warmer the car is the louder the noise gets. It makes the noise only at idle speeds and not while in reverse.

Here is a video clip from my cell phone so you can here the noise. YOu will notice the change in the noise that is because I am switching through park to drive.

Maybe a loose flywheel or torque convertor bolts???
