Key goes to the run position you don't advance the key to "start" instead you hit the button

You are only triggering a solenoid the aftermarket pushbutton start switches are 5 amps ...
I've got an ignited brand one new in the box I'd let go for $20 it's green illuminated I think I mounted it in the cigarette lighter

Those switches are infamous for getting dirty ... disassemble and clean the contacts then reassemble
