2  General Category / Questions and problems / Re: knock sensor on: August 19, 2008, 11:05:10 PM
it doesn't cause in the 3.0 swap write up it says wrap the knock sensor up and tuck it out of the way cause you wont be using it

The cars the 3.0's come from have a knock sensor...our cars do not.
3  Tech Forums / 6 Cylinder Tech / Re: Hmmm, should I change the timing belt? on: August 17, 2008, 01:22:39 PM
My '98 has 74,000 mi.  The manual recommends replacing the timing belt at 60,000 for CA (me), 100,000 for everyone else.  I'm in the middle, but it is 10 years old.  I'm planning to sell it in 3-6 months.
Do you think it's risky to leave it alone?

If you plan on buying all the parts from us, then yes you should replace it.  Other than that, no it should be fine...lol

On the alternator/power steering belt - 14mm wrench to loosen the nut and 12mm socket and long extension to adjust it.

On the A/C belt - 17mm wrench to loosen the nut and 12mm socket and extension to adjust it.

If you ask an actual question it would pry help in getting an answer.

I don't believe there is pictures from the different things you need to do when doing the swap.

did you ever look into the 99-03 galant and 00-05 eclipse rear engine mount? from what i see, it look like it bolts up to the all the 6g7*. On the 6g73 the trans to engine bracket would have to be removed or modified to use them, but on all blocks i believe the bosses are there to mount to

say you used two of them (front and back) and made a custom cross member? I think that would be easier? Get some structurual steel...say 1"x3"x.125 and make it work...Idk? just thinking.

or would all the torque and stress crack the block... hmmm, well it's cast, it got to be strong!

CMC

From what I've seen, the 3G mounts look almost the same as ours.

From brain storming and looking at different mounts, there really wasn't a way to get any of our stock ones to work.

On the rear side of the transmission, this is where all the shifter cables are routed and attached.

Trust me, if we could of used stock mounts, we would of.  We are trying to keep the cost down as much as we can.

I tried contacting a couple of parts stores and both told me that there is no such part available. Any suggestions on where to find this sensor? Maybe at a dodge dealership?

I can sell you a new one for $15.95+shipping

Any words on pricing yet? If it's done before I get the auto rebuilt I'll get this instead. Smiley

More than you can afford pal!!!!!!

With custom parts needing made still, no price can be said.

Do you know what kind of problems they ran into trying to do the megasquirt on the v6?

I only know 1 person who actually tired it and he said it ran ok, but couldn't get it to idle I believe.

I don't not know of another person who tried.

So Scott, how much progress is there [and be specific this time. lol]? Specifics?

Transmission has been fully converted to hydraulic system.

Shifter and linkage is all installed and working.

Still waiting on the axle.

No one was successfully got a megasquirt to work on a V6.  Everything is from scratch for the V6.

You can use a 6BTM ignition box instead of a 6A ignition box to retard timing per psi under boost.

AirCare = our emmissions testing rip-off here in British columbia - http://www.aircare.ca/
For 1998 and newer cars they just hook up a OBD reader to the vehicle and verify that there are no errors recorded in the system, and that the car runs through it's own diagnostics cleanly.  For older vehicles they analyze the exhaust with a sniffer.  And for both types of vehicles they only charge $45 every 2 years.

Now that my car was just run through the test, one of my neighbours informed me that AirCare is being closed down in September.  Glad to see it gone - it was a glorified tax grab, and a giant waste of time.

You sure it's 1998 and newer?  usually it's '96+

But I agree with having vehicles at least inspected to be on the roads.  For most people to actually see the condition of cars on the road today...I think they would agree.  There are many cars that have no reason to be on the roads, which IMO that is unsafe.  Making cars have inspections takes care of that.  But of course you have shops that will rip people off and say they need this or that when they really don't.  But that is no different than going to  most dealers now days.
