I just got my Sebring home today, and I'm having a problem with the door locks on it. Much like the problem Stan described, but my doors won't lock, like the "signal" to unlock is constantly being sent; it's draining the battery. You can't even lock them manually if the battery has any juice. I know it's an electrical problem, b/c when I went to pick the car up today the battery was completely dead, and the doors would lock/unlock manually. I would like to know how to disconnect the power to the pdl's: I've already looked in the fuse block under the dash, and taken out the fuses marked anti-theft system and door locks, but the doors still will not lock. I'd like to know where the pdl relay is located; I just want to disconnect it so the locks will quit killing my battery, and I'll worry about fixing the problem later. As of right now, this Sebring will probably see action as a beater, as it will have to play second fiddle to my only other car, my Camaro.
Thanks for the input, guys. I'm just looking at a few options for the car right now. I really got a killer deal on it, and I can't justify spending more for a body kit than I paid for the car itself. The car was run up on a curb by my Mom (that's who I bought it from), and the bottom part of the front bumper is screwed up. I was just thinking that $200ish for a body kit is prob. not much more than I'd have to spend to replace the bumper, and I think an A/S with a TC2 looks an awful lot like a GTO. So, that was my train of thought. I'm also thinking about selling the car, and a $1k body kit would eat up a lot of profit.
There are body kits on ebay for as little as $200ish plus shipping... TC1 and TC2. I was wondering if anybody on here has one of them, and could vouch for the quality of the pieces. If something is that cheap, it usually throws a red flag in my mind, so I was wondering why the prices have gone down so much. Keep in mind that I haven't looked at any of this stuff in about 4-5 years, and a fiberglass TC2 kit was about $1000 at that time. Is it just because the urethane kits are more common than they used to be, making the glass kits less desireable (and therefore cheaper), or are these kits el Crappo?
I've got a set of Max Speed adjustable CoilOvers just sitting around that I've had for a long time, and I'm thinking about lowering my car a little bit. I'm just wondering if anybody's using them, and could tell me how they ride with a good set of struts. The only car I've ever been in that had these kind of adjustable springs before was slammed all the way down on stock struts, and it bounced like a boat on choppy water, and I don't want that at all.
My sebring with cams would get like 10 mpg. My talon tsi gets way better gas mileage and has like 200 whp.
I agree; V6 Sebrings/Avengers are bad enough on gas as it is. They're good looking cars, but it's not worth it to spend so much money on them to make them fast, unless you just really love 'em. If you just really have a thing for a certain car, that's a little different: to each his own. Heck, my Camaro gets just as good gas mileage as my Sebring, and it has better than 300rwhp.
Welcome back Grant, what's up with the LS1, anything done to it?
A few little things to the motor: lid, throttle body, MAF, smooth bellow, !EGR, !skip shift, and it's also got a 4.10:1 rear end gear. It's actually the third car I've had since I sold my Sebring: there was a WS.6 TransAm, a 325i (a '95, got it real cheap, I'm not the kind of guy who can afford to just go buy a bimmer), and then the Camaro, in that order. I guess I'm kind of trying to relive the days of the WS.6, it had a ProCharger, which I kind of miss, but I cleared a good bit of money when I sold it. BTW, what can I do about changing my screen name? I didn't mean to have it say my real name, I must've filled out the registration wrong, it was supposed to be FixerUpper, that was even in my email with the activation link.
I used to be on this forum as whitebring97 a long time ago, then I sold my car (obviously, a white '97 Sebring) to my Mom. Well, she's done with it now, and sold it back to me, so I'm kind of an alum, kind of not. So now, I have the Sebring and an LS1 Camaro, both white. I'm hoping to do some little inexpensive things to give the Sebring better gas mileage (it's a V6) and use it to get back and forth to work, so hopefully I'll learn some things from you guys.
