Hey guys i finaly took my sebring to the dealer to get checked out for the clunking noise it was making. They told me it was a left lower compression arm, i have no clue what that is. a left inner tie rod end, and 2 sway bar links are worn down. they quoted me at 1200 to fix. my question is what is a lower compression arm? i have never heard of this before. You need new Sway bar links to fix your sway bar links.  The link just said they would find me parts in my zip code

I'm assuming the compression arm is actually a control arm.  I've never heard of a compression arm  ???

The only think that really compresses down there is your spring and strut assembly everything else runs off of that as far as the up and down movement.

I've heard of a compression arm. and i do think that it is the control arm that it's AKA.

Even though this was on the front, this was mine when i had to change it.

The allen key i used with a deep well with an extension resting on it for a brace so that i could tighten up the rear nut of the sway bar link.

Like DT told me when i got the new one, there is a nut that you can't see. To gain access to it, simply pull the boot down just a little like you would when you pull your sleeve up on your shirt.

The compression arm is the lower curved control arm. Just like the straight control arm is actually called a lower lateral arm.

The inner tie rod ends, I suggest replacing both sides at the same time and spend the extra for Moog brand if you plan to keep the car for a while. And you might as well replace the outer tie rod ends as well. Get Moog brand on those as well.

The sway bar links, be sure to get the ones meant for the front. Rears are completely different. And again, get Moog brand on those too if you plan to keep the car for a while.

Moog is more expensive but will last much longer than the cheap store brand parts. And most Moog parts, if not all, have a lifetime guarantee. Store brand parts do not.

Moog costs more? OH! you mean they cost more at the counter, not over the long term. lol

but yeah, definitely buy Moog if it's available. It's worth it, trust me. the one in the pic is moog. the one that's good that is.

Alright thanks for the replies guys i will try gettin this thing fixed and see if it takes care of the clunking.

and btw, when my front passenger side was clunking after going up a hill from turning off a flat road :  \__  : it would make a slam or pop sound when i had to turn left onto and incline road or driveway. That ended up being the upper passenger ball joint. look for my 'I need a BJ' thread in Questions and Problems.

I think the ball joints are fine, i brought it to a dealer and they checked out the whole front end.

And yes, MOOG is usually worth the price difference.  They make that up with there quality.

Woot I bought the compression arm from dms for a ton cheaper then advance etc. I put it on and it took care of all of the clunking. It also took care of what i thought was the tranny clunking, it used to clunk on shifts or a fast start but it doesnt clunk at all now.
