Title: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on March 27, 2008, 03:18:39 PM Do they make corked gaskets or something better than the cheap flimsee ones.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Enemytoast on March 30, 2008, 11:04:32 PM Assuming your talking A604, you can get a cork gasket at autozone.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Sroufe7 on March 31, 2008, 05:37:38 AM What for?
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Shiano on March 31, 2008, 05:49:15 AM lol. i'm guessing a 97 2.5L
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Sroufe7 on March 31, 2008, 05:50:24 AM yes, but gasket for what? an entire gasket set? trans pan?
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on March 31, 2008, 03:49:06 PM Its an A604e. I was wanting to get a trans pan gasket i have the one autozone gave me and im still have problems with it leaking and i sealed it up and done everything i no. And it still leaks.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Sroufe7 on March 31, 2008, 04:24:38 PM Use RTV and you problems shall go away.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on March 31, 2008, 04:57:05 PM Already tried it.. Still has a slow leak. Plus i hate the flimsy gaskets i like the corked ones better.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Sroufe7 on March 31, 2008, 05:03:47 PM Already tried it.. Still has a slow leak. Plus i hate the flimsy gaskets i like the corked ones better. Cork gaskets are flimsy if you ask me. You didn't do it right if it still leaks and you used RTV. You have to make sure teh surfaces are dry when you use RTV. I have yet to have a surface leak when I use RTV. Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on March 31, 2008, 05:23:21 PM Its a very slow leak. I think its where my pan is a little bent on the edge.Ive been meaning to switch out that pan to my old one..
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Shiano on March 31, 2008, 08:40:32 PM :: taps fingers on desk ::
We'll hurt you later. lol for now, replace the pan ASAP and start over, just remember to use a razor blade and SCRAPE all the old material off. Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: fixitfirstime on April 01, 2008, 05:11:52 AM Or just get the Mopar steel reinforced reusable one that came out sometime in the last 5-6 years. I put one on my 95 and it was easy (no mess) to install and works great.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on April 01, 2008, 03:42:28 PM My Grandprix has gaskets that are reinforced and thats what im wanting for my Avenger.. I swapped to my old pan last night so i dont have anymore leaks from the pan but now im leaking around my Diff cover If thats what you call it lol. Looks kinda like one.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: CMC on April 04, 2008, 04:58:40 PM did you find out why its leaking around the "diff cover"?
CMC Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on April 04, 2008, 05:36:51 PM I think the gasket has went bad. Im leaking from around there and i think maybe my axle seals. It only leaks when im done driving it for the day when it sit longer than an hour. Usaully i have to put a half quart in every week. :'(. I hate it cause it doesnt always do it so its hard to find. Cause with all the ran im having problem seeing where the fluid is coming from.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: CMC on April 04, 2008, 07:23:09 PM i noticed lately that i have a leak in that area... looks like a real pain to change.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on April 06, 2008, 12:55:49 AM Ya it does look like it will be a lil fun im gunna try to change mine next weekend. Ill tell ya how fun it was to do after i do it.

Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: CMC on April 07, 2008, 03:58:10 PM thats how i learn... i wreck somethng and figure out that i did was the wrong way and then to do it again.
CMC Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on April 07, 2008, 04:46:03 PM Same with me but sometimes i get it the first time.. Have you ever changed axle seals.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Darktengu on April 07, 2008, 05:22:23 PM Same with me but sometimes i get it the first time.. Have you ever changed axle seals. If he hasn't he will soon. Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on April 07, 2008, 05:28:56 PM How hard are they to change lol is what im asking cause ive gotta change mine this weekend to. I cant afford putting a quart of tranny fluid in it ever week lol.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: CMC on April 07, 2008, 06:25:37 PM i have changed the ps axle seal... because when i pulled the engine the axle sat against the seal, and i didnt want a $8 part become a major issue.
"Dark" had to help me because the axle "should" have come out of the hub, but mine was "like" welded in there. so he dropped the lower arm off to create some space, then we seperated it at the knuckle. Once the engine bracket was unbolted the ps axle slides right out. i would place a bag arounded the knuckle side where the boot is (grease), and a large drain pan under where the axle is coming out of the trans. i think i lost about 2 or maybe 3 qts. There are 4 bolts that hold the seal in. remove them. pull the machined assembly out. throw some heat at it and work the seal out with a screw driver or whatever. do not damage the machined part by beating on it. clean the RTD of the back side. use a large rubber hammer and completely press in the seal...take your time, hit it evenly until in gets sitted..then give it the business. MAKE SURE YOUR WORKING ON A BOARD or you could damage the machined part and it will never seal right. Clean it again with brake cleaner, apply RTD, let it set a little bit, clean the area where the machined part goes into (under car), put machined part w/ seal back in, bolt it down, put axle in, replace bolts on mount...finish the rest. I dont know the DS ??? Cant image it would be too different. When you drop all the trans fuild, it would probably be a good time to do that diff cover? CMC let me know if that made any sense, i eat paint chips Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on April 08, 2008, 02:34:18 AM Lol ya that made sense. Im doing my diff cover in about another thousand miles. But im doing my axle seals this weekend im losing to much fluid.
Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: Shiano on April 08, 2008, 08:21:54 AM RTF or RTD?
and yes, the rest made sense. Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: CMC on April 08, 2008, 01:10:57 PM Quote RTF or RTD? IDK, that high temp gasket making crap that i get all over the place...the black stuff, i thought it was RTD. CMC Title: Re: Transmission gaskets Post by: 97avengerguy on April 08, 2008, 05:21:46 PM Lol thanks for the write up CMC.. I was wondering how you fix the seals i was gunna have my girlfriends dad help me but i think with that i should be able to do it my self.
Im doing mine saturday. So ill let you guyz kno how much fun i had lol. I had alot of fun doing an inner tie rod last night take a damn hour just get the clamp to go back on the back of the boot.
