Was thinkin today bout this... Wouldnt our self adjusting a604 make the trans go modification pointless? If the transmission is always learning theres no way to trick it into doing what we want it to do. Is there any possible way to turn it off?

that is kinda the point...yes...but you don't need to trick it, just teach it what you want it to do. as long as you keep the same driving style it will learn you, and shift smooth no matter how hard you're pushing it. if there is something that you want to do outside of its normal range, then tricking it wouldnt really work, you'd have to modify it in some other way to get the desired result.

but doesnt smooth shifting compromise the speed of the shifts? Say if one installed the Trans Go kit in thier cars, the car would shift firmer and faster that it had before. The Trans Go does this by modifying the pressure in the transmission fluid (or some fluid) right? ??? ??? But as you continue to drive with the Trans Go installed, wont the a604 learn that the pressure is too great, then adapt itself to the new pressure, and finally return the the old slower smoother shifts again?     

i honestly don't know to what degree these transmissions can control, but it doesnt sound like a good idea, these trannys are fragile enough i'd hate to put more pressure into them. and smooth doesnt always mean slow.

Well,

One would be that if you have less overlap on a torqueflite rwd...it is quicker in the 1/4. I used aftermarket kits forsome time and the second gear shift was rough but barked the tires.  After modifying the governor weights so it would shift higher on it's own it shifted smoother and was a touch quicker.

The reason was the LR band was on when I would manually select first. This made  the second gear shift cumbersome.

I realize the trans we are discussing is yestertech compared to 41te but the point is ...if the overlap is quick and short...the shift may not shock the driveline.

THe big sister to this trans is the 62te in an o7 pacifica or 08 sebring ,or avenger. You owe it to yourself to drive one and manually shift it out. Very smooth and very fast. Factory software is not that bad.
