Title: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: Tig on March 19, 2008, 08:33:37 PM i painted mine and molded them in a few years ago but it looks like they are starting to crack so i'm gonna hafta do it again. the first time, i didn't know exactly what i was doing and didn't fiberglass them with cloth and resin, just bondo-glass (the kind of bondo with fiberglass) and now they are cracking out.
just wondered who else has done this and what procedure you used and if you had any good tips. thanks! mandy Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: Tig on March 20, 2008, 12:37:35 PM so you just squeezed epoxy down in the cracks and smoothed it off? no issues with heat or cold cracking it out? it doesn't expand in high temps or anything does it?
why didn't i just hink of that! arf! its gonna be a pita to crack it all back out and sand off all the f-ing paint on the tail light without messing up the red part. lol! i may just buy some new taillights so i can just rip these out and start over! would probably be easier! lol! ;D gr8witelxi, as far as mine goes, there are pics in the link of my sig and i might be able to get some more sometime soon. was molded was like the last couple of pics or something. can't remember. Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: JusBringIt on March 20, 2008, 02:57:39 PM I believe it does expand and contract, but not so much that it cracks, just pressure build up I suppose.
Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: Tig on March 20, 2008, 03:11:42 PM hmmmm. i just don't want to wind up in the same position i am now having to manually crack it all back out and completely redo it a few years later cause it started cracking. :(
you think it would be best to expoxy the lights in or try mess with fibreglass resin which would be a pita to do? Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: Bad Venge on March 20, 2008, 04:07:50 PM admitidly the one I did is not a daily driver and sits in a heated garage all winter the extreme cold/heat cycles is what causes cracking ...
fuzor is slightly flexible and I think it helps also ... remeber to switch to led bulbs to prevent the lights from burning out it's a bitch to change after they are moulded Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: Tig on March 20, 2008, 04:16:31 PM they are a pita to change! but not terrible. however, switching to leds would probably be a good idea now that i hafta completely redo it all anyway. do you have any that you recommend? thanks for your help!

Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: Tig on March 20, 2008, 06:28:48 PM did you go with white ones that lit up your red reflector or did you go with red ones? i was thinking the white would light it up better right?
Title: Re: anyone molded in their tail lights? Post by: Bad Venge on March 20, 2008, 10:59:53 PM whites are brighter ... red looks darker thru red lenses
