Title: real noob. Post by: JamesBondo on March 17, 2008, 03:50:10 PM Would it be possible to use the 41AE awd version of the A604 as the basis all wheel drive setup in our cars? ??? ??? I dont think the bell housing would match up and i believe the valve bodies would be different too, but its still an A604 right?

The extension housing and differential carrier from a 41ae is the main difference between your 41te/A604. If you use your trans and rebuild it with the diff. and extension housing from the 41ae you can bolt on the power transfer unit from an AWD Pacifica or AWD minivan. Then the fun of clearancing the crossmember to make room for the ptu starts. The late model system...say 2000 and up had a bidirectional roller clutch in the diff so you didn't even need the reverse dog clutchand relay setup to get reverse awd. It is all mechanical...perfect for swapping. fixitifirstime Title: Re: real noob. Post by: Alain95i4 on March 18, 2008, 12:52:58 AM that was part of my plans one day
however a low life bum stole my grand caravan awd 2 months ago no more donor van :( and the replacement fwd caravan is not fun to drive at all Alain Title: Re: real noob. Post by: JamesBondo on March 18, 2008, 07:21:25 PM what about the tcm? would i still use the one from the Avenger or would i have to use the one from the Pacifica? And what about the rear differential? gsx?
Title: Re: real noob. Post by: fixitfirstime on March 22, 2008, 03:46:47 AM There is no difference in the TCM for a 41ae vehicle. It was a vacuum over mechanical system that worked off back up lights at first then went full mechanical with bidirectional roller clutch in back end.
I would try to use the rear axle and half shafts from the donor vehicle. fixitfirstime Title: Re: real noob. thanks to the longer wheel base matched with the extra traction I'm currently in the market to buy a replacement and ditch my fwd caravan to the first one with cash in his hands Alain
