Title: Avenger Seats - questions
Post by: Martin on January 02, 2006, 07:33:01 PM
1) The driver's seat backrest of our 95 Avenger does not lock anymore. There seems to be a broken joint just underneath the outer side support. Any known fixes?

2) Which seats are interchangeable with the Avenger? Eclipse? Talon? Other??

3) Does anybody have a spare driver's side seat? Ontario/Western Quebec preferred!

Thanks!

Hello Martin

1) You may just have a broken spring or it has come off.  4 bolts and 1 seatbelt light harness and the seats will come out.  Turn it upsidedown and have a look.

2) The seats that are 100% compatible are:
1995-1999 Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse
1995-2000 Chrysler Sebring (coupe only), Dodge Avenger

3) I dont have any seats myself, maybe someone else does but you can also check out http://www.car-part.com/ they have parts you can search for at some junkyards.

Good Luck!

Anymore questions let me know,

James

Thanks for the answers! :)

I removed the cover and the cushion. I did not manage to get the headrest tubes out. It seems simple, squeeze the ends that are inside the backrest and pull the plastic tube out, but....

The back rest has brackets that attach it to the support arms (on the seat) with 2 bolts on each side. The brackets are made from POS thin metal that is POS spot welded to the backrest frame.
Only the backrest support arm on the left side of the driver's seat locks up. The right one is spring supported but has no lock.
I hammered the bent parts back into shape and welded the broken piece back in. You need a MIG welder (which I don't have)....my arch welder happily burnt holes. I barely managed to get it to hold together. I covered my welds in duct tape because I was so ashamed. ::)

So far, so good.....

I used zip ties to re-attach the seat cover, instead of the round metal clamps. It is easier to mount and tighten and seems to hold.
