Title: Camshaft selection
Post by: Rob on August 27, 2007, 01:33:30 AM
Been looking at cams, probably gonna put a set in the Charger along w/ adj gears, before I build the engine. Seem Crane and Crower are the only ones making cams for them. The Neon guys seem to think Crane 14's are about the best for a stock compression engine, does this hold true for the Avenger engine? Anyone had any experience w/ the Crower cams? Looks like Stage 1 Crowers would be the most a stock engine would want.

I am going to be using crane 14's for the 420A Eclipse.

DO NOT USE THE NEON CAMS THEY WILL BE WRONG.

fyi  ;D

I think DT is using crower.

Wrongo Nykon I have Crane cams as well!  14s are a great set for forced induction.  What is your overall goal?

My goal? An all-motor build eventually, high-compression, ported head, etc. Before that though, I'm gonna run the engine stock until I get the bugs worked out and money saved, so right now I'm looking for cams that will complement a stock engine. It's a '96 engine, if it makes any difference.

I'd say save up and just do it all the right way when you can.  Why spend hundreds maybe a thousand or two just to change the set up?

True, I didn't realize how expensive cams were for these engines. Lol I'm used to buying V8 cams for like 50-100 bucks.

DT, what did you get that was Crower??  I know there is something.

Crane lays it out pretty well what each grind does.

Hey man.. I know a guy from way back in the old days of ASOG that tried to do an All Motor Build on the 420a. He only shaved off a couple seconds (17-15). He put litterally thousands into the engine along with a lot of time and effort, only to be let down. These motors are best with Forced Induction.
