Title: should i keep the stock headunit?
Post by: 24valvekidd on January 01, 2006, 12:09:44 AM
yea um i plan on putting a ten inch kicker sub with a 200 watt  2 -way clarion amp in my car but i dont kno if i should keep the stock headunit or put an aftermarket one in since the stock one in my 99 sebring has an equalizer and speaker direction which is one is easier on my wallet in the long run?

Depends on what kind of HU you're looking at getting.  I'm never a fan on factory audio.  But if you're going to get some cheap HU then you might be better off sticking with your current HU.

yeah its possible but it'll cost you more trust me, I was gonna do that until they started talkin about the other stuff that would need to be inolved with doing it, like installing a seperate equalizer, bass control etc.  so your better off buying a new (good)  deck and having it all installed at once or install the deck yourself and save some cash to get your amp hooked up.

???  Well it's VERY simple to install a sub amp on the stock head unit All you need is a high level to low level convertor ($20) and wire that into the 6X9's on the rear deck wire power and ground ...IF you have the infinity amp use that for the remote line (white wire with silver/black dots )...If the amp has a low pass filter use that to give it only lows

if you buy an xtant amp you don't even need the high to low level converter, it'll filter it at the amp

I hooked up a fosgate p2 and an xplod amp to my factory hu, and it worked great.  I bought a new hu cuz i can now turn my sub on or off, whatever you like is what you should do.  I just didn't like my sub running constantly.

Go through eBay with an experienced seller.  It will save you big bucks for electronics.  I save over 30% on my set up.
