Title: Neon Block???? Post by: Ballinboy2318 on June 14, 2007, 04:37:16 AM What all do i have to do to use a 420a block from a neon on the head off of my avenger????? Need to know as soon as possible thanks
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Darktengu on June 14, 2007, 12:02:33 PM Um take the block out of the neon and the head off your avenger...... ;D
As far as I know you don't need to do anything special. Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Nykon on June 14, 2007, 02:03:59 PM yup, as long as it is the 420A Block you are good to go.
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Shaggers on June 18, 2007, 07:49:32 AM I thought I remembered seeing somewhere that they won't interchange. Aren't the heads on the Neon backwards compared to an Avenger, the exhaust comes out the back instead of the front?
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Darktengu on June 18, 2007, 12:12:51 PM The head is on backwards, so you can't use that. But the block is the same.
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Shaggers on June 19, 2007, 01:14:59 AM Ahhh, I knew something was backwards with those Neons.
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: CJ Draper on July 20, 2007, 12:46:25 PM As long as it's a 420a block with your head your good to go... and yeah, backwards is one way of describing a Neon ;)
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: ken on July 20, 2007, 09:31:35 PM a 420a is a 420a man, sebring, avenger, eclipse, talon, or the bass ackwards neon (peon) same motor, same parts.
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Shiano on July 21, 2007, 09:50:50 PM only the block. a '78 350 is not the same as a '95 350
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: ben johnson on July 24, 2007, 12:01:27 AM I've always wondered about the sohc neon 420a will it work? Just curious.
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Nykon on July 24, 2007, 01:21:46 AM Please refer to the rest of the thread that you apparently neglected to read...
Quote a 420a is a 420a man, sebring, avenger, eclipse, talon, or the bass ackwards neon (peon) same motor, same parts. Post by: Shiano on July 24, 2007, 04:46:26 AM And the votes are in..............
machine shop is the next step. Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Rob on September 09, 2007, 07:42:24 PM Okay, just to be sure, does this mean that aftermarket hi-compression pistons for a Neon will fit the Avenger too? I'm like 99% sure they will, but don't want to buy a set and find out some piddly little thing won't let me use them :( SOHC and DOHC pistons interchange too or no?
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Shiano on September 11, 2007, 07:41:59 AM ok. the pistons I would be iffy about. In order for a piston to do it's job [compressing the fuel/air mixture inside the cylinder], it must have a cylinder head attached to the block. Since the heads for a neon NEVER should be used on an Avenger or Eclipse, I wouldn't.
You use Utensils to eat food with, but you don't use a fork for soup. Make sense? Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Rob on September 11, 2007, 01:16:05 PM Yeah makes sense, I was thinking that the valve reliefs would be a bit different, since the intake and exhaust valves are reversed.
Title: Re: Neon Block???? Post by: Matt on September 12, 2007, 02:13:04 AM on a interferance engine like ours, there are little slots in the piston for the valve. Depending on number of valves = slots in the pison. 8v 12v 16v, not sure what the neon is. but i don't think it would work. unless you wanted some valves bent on the piston.
