Title: Water Pump Swap Post by: Darktengu on April 21, 2007, 08:29:12 PM Here's my How-To on water pumps.
TAKE THEM IN!!! This thing is a pain. I got the old one out and the new one in. But now I have to mess with timing and all that crap. Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Nykon on April 21, 2007, 10:28:50 PM There is no how to... ???
Do you have the cam gear tool?? Makes it soo much easier. Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Darktengu on April 22, 2007, 02:18:44 AM I'm close to shooting the car. I suck at timing and though the car starts it runs ROUGH. I thought I had the timing perfect too....
And on top of it I heard a nice bang. So I"m hoping it's not destroyed. Damn it all. Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: JusBringIt on April 22, 2007, 09:12:26 AM good advice in such short words
Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Ivan on April 22, 2007, 02:56:25 PM i tried do my timing belt and water pump.... but eFing failed, had to tow it out.
but i hope your car is fine bro :-[ Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Enemytoast on April 22, 2007, 03:50:48 PM I hope that bang was a backfire?
Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Aaron on April 22, 2007, 04:02:58 PM uhh oh, that sucks man hope it works out...oh and dont shoot it yet
Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Darktengu on April 22, 2007, 06:21:18 PM I'm hoping it was a back fire or something too. Won't know until I try again. Damn it.
Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: True Horsepower on April 23, 2007, 02:42:53 AM Dave says..
Always always rotate the crank 4 times and recheck timing marks before buttoning it up. bit late though.. everyone else learn from darktengu's mistake ;-) Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Darktengu on April 23, 2007, 03:10:36 AM I rotated it Three times. But something I noticed is that if you do the crank, and set that at the marks. rotate the crank once. The Camgear marks will be a half rotation off. But if you rotate the crank again the camgear marks are on. So I have no clue.
Also the good news is the valves weren't bent. But something was stopping my intake camshaft from rotating. I pulled the engine as seen in the General area. I thought the valves were for sure bent but they're fine. But I couldn't move the camshaft AT ALL. either way. It was stuck. Motor is pulled apart and going to an Engine Machine shop some time this week (probably Monday) Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Enemytoast on April 23, 2007, 04:36:53 AM I don't know that it's the same, but the v6 the engine is only in time every two rotations of the crank, when piston 1 is at tdc. The marks being off is normal I believe. If you had the adjustable cam gears....well...you only have to be off by a hair. :-[ I dunno, I did my water pump and timing.
Good luck with the rest man, at least you have an excuse to push those plans forward. ;) Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: admin on April 23, 2007, 12:32:08 PM Guys..
the cams spin at 1/2 the speed of the crank so you have to turn the crank 2x for the cams to do one rotation rotating the crank 4 times guarantees that the timing is good. The only thing that would stop the cam from turning is bent valves.. or valves hitting a piston. Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Darktengu on April 23, 2007, 10:05:37 PM or valves hitting a piston. I'm assuming that was my problem, but I'd have to get new gaskets and all that. So we'll just move forward with the built motor ;D Title: Re: Water Pump Swap Post by: Shiano on April 24, 2007, 07:00:49 AM Very good my young pupil. Out of the ashes explodes a brilliant pheonix.
