Title: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: The Reincarnation on March 21, 2007, 09:40:40 PM I have been hearing clunking, and squeaking in the frontend of my venge, the guy who owned the car before me had not done the recall and i turned into the parking lot of a church and it busted 400 dollars out of my pocket, snapped axles and all, anyways i cant figure it out i am a auto technician in training. I know i need to fix my tie rods for sure i can move a whole 1/2 inch. any help would be nice.
p.s. i bought this car from used dealer, had been wrecked in past. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Darktengu on March 21, 2007, 11:17:02 PM Could be a bad sway bar link, bad struts, brake calipers, control arm, engine mounts, axles....... I can go on, but with more info I can be more helpful.
When do the noises occur? Acceleration, braking, only after 20 MPH, only when turning. Does it get worse when doing any of those things? Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: redstar_gearhead on March 21, 2007, 11:49:55 PM "squeaking in the frontend of my venge" : - check all front ball joints. PB Blaster might shut them up temporarily, bu tnot a "sure" fix.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: The Reincarnation on March 22, 2007, 02:29:27 PM its when ever i hit a bump and when i am sitting still from switching to drive from reverse and i turn the steering wheel to takeoff as soon as i hit the gas it makes a clunking sound but only at first, and whenever i hit so uneven pavement it makes a clunking type sound only not as loud as if i was going over a bump slow.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Darktengu on March 22, 2007, 05:33:02 PM Sounds like a suspension issue. What all have they replaced on your car? How long ago was it?
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Gr8witeLxi on March 22, 2007, 09:59:04 PM its when ever i hit a bump and when i am sitting still from switching to drive from reverse and i turn the steering wheel to takeoff as soon as i hit the gas it makes a clunking sound but only at first, and whenever i hit so uneven pavement it makes a clunking type sound only not as loud as if i was going over a bump slow. That's exacly what my car did before I got the ball joints done.. If you kinda hop the car with the throttle (bounce the front end abit) it knocked (clunked).. and every bump or uneven pavement. check the ball joints.. lower laterals were my problem... check if the bushings are loose by prying up an down on them abit. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: The Reincarnation on March 22, 2007, 10:23:02 PM i jsut replaced the l.c.a.'s and axles, so do i need to check my uppers and sway bar bushings? I am getting new struts now since i went through the forums and found a guy with the same problem and the said it could be that also as fore mentioned, its jsut annerving to here that noise, i mean it drives alright but you know better safe than sorry, oh yeah and i just got an apexi n1 exhaust 2.5in
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Darktengu on March 22, 2007, 11:31:46 PM L.A.C. ?? Don't know that abbreviation. If you're doing the struts, then I would replace all the suspension bushings, and check that all your links are tight.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Nykon on March 22, 2007, 11:35:50 PM Lower Control Arm.
Take it to a dealer, have them do the recall and replace all that was damaged when your ball joint snapped. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Darktengu on March 23, 2007, 12:22:36 AM Derrrrr, I'm dyslexic apparently. LCA makes more sense.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: The Reincarnation on March 23, 2007, 11:20:58 AM ha ha ok will do do you have any suggestions for struts i am eventually gonna get arospeed or skunk2 coilovers (slipover type)
and thanks for all the information i am glad i found this site, karma for you all. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Darktengu on March 23, 2007, 11:54:38 AM I have the KYB AGX's on my car and love them. I have them paired with Eibach pro kit.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: The Reincarnation on March 23, 2007, 01:43:25 PM i have kyb silver tubes on it as of now but i can feel almost every bump and i dont think theyre working so great, so i am going to replace them with your strut of choice kyb agx, i looked them up i like how theyre adjustable, Re they hard to adjust?
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Nykon on March 23, 2007, 03:22:33 PM Click of a dial or screwdriver. Pretty easy, even DT can figure it out. ;D
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: redstar_gearhead on March 23, 2007, 10:32:06 PM I just discovered I kinda have a similiar problem, but I don't think it is a control arm ball joint. I know I have a bad upper ball joint, but when I get under it and bump everything with my palm, I think it's comming from the upper part of the strut or something else deeper inside. The upper ball joint doesn't squeak yet.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Darktengu on March 23, 2007, 10:44:14 PM Click of a dial or screwdriver. Pretty easy, even DT can figure it out. ;D It is pretty easy. Only takes a couple of seconds for each (http://medialocker.org/i/800d1529abc.JPG) Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Nykon on March 23, 2007, 11:55:29 PM LOL, WTF???
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Darktengu on March 24, 2007, 11:45:01 AM Oh so now you're going to act like this didn't happen?
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Nykon on March 24, 2007, 03:28:32 PM Actually I was trying to figure out what picture that was. :D
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: JusBringIt on March 24, 2007, 06:30:57 PM Click of a dial or screwdriver. Pretty easy, even DT can figure it out. ;D lolTitle: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on March 25, 2007, 04:45:12 AM Ok here's one from mine:
When i make a left hand turn (basically 180) into my apt complex, the entrance actually goes up hill for about 3 feet. almost every time unless i ease into it i hear and FEEL a pop on the passenger side like something slipping. I'm thinking the ball joint (cuz we all know TSB's...). So...... any suggestions? need more info? Anyone REALLY good with 5spd knoweldge i'll be posting a new one in the transmission section. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Nykon on March 25, 2007, 06:18:11 AM DO you hear it when you are turning or after you have straightened out?
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on March 25, 2007, 06:54:17 PM It's in the turn, ONE pop, and only when the elevation is rising.
(http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r231/Shiano/bump.jpg) Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Enemytoast on March 25, 2007, 07:43:47 PM Well of course you hear popping, your driving up steps!
Seriously, I don't know what that is. Could it be the spring being forced to contract and making a noise? Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: JusBringIt on March 25, 2007, 08:37:44 PM i could soooo tear this thread apart....individual...by..individual. lol however i wont.
Popping is not good..could be ur car bottoming out :P. i have no aftermarket springs tho..dont really plan on it either...unless mine are worn. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Nykon on March 25, 2007, 09:01:18 PM I was thinking CV Joint.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on March 26, 2007, 08:06:10 AM Could it be the spring being forced to contract and making a noise? Don't think it is. It's the driver side that compresses given it's an uphill entrance and i'm making a LEFT turn. the driver side will compress first and the passenger side will have it ALOT easier.I was thinking CV Joint. yes and no. we've both seen enough of those s.o.b.'s and i dont think it is (they actually are pretty new. i sold them myself. installation however....) plus it only does it when i'm turning left into the complex. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: The Reincarnation on March 27, 2007, 11:35:18 PM my car makes the smae sound, you might check the tie rods mine did it until i replace my inner tie rod i am still trying to figure it out myself.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: mcgyvr on March 29, 2007, 04:36:07 PM If you haven't done the recall get it done ASAP.
If your driving and the ball joint snaps you should call the dealership, they have to pay for towing and all replacement parts that were damaged due to the ball joint snapping. If your ball joint snapped and you payed to fix the problem call the dealership or chrysler customer service and the will refund your money provided you have receipts. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on March 29, 2007, 10:32:57 PM I think the recall has already been done. Is it a lifetime or can they tell?
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Enemytoast on March 30, 2007, 12:41:04 AM Its good for a lifetime. Call up the Chrysler recall center and give them the VIN, they can tell you if its been done and make an appointment at a local dealership if it hasn't.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on March 30, 2007, 09:07:04 AM ok. so good for a lifetime (i've worked for Advance and O'Reillys) either means the lifetime of the car or the length of time Joe Bob Dandy III, who was the original person to do the recall per say, owns said Avenger/Sebring.
So is it as long as the person owns the car, or as long as the car hasn't been declared KIA? Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Enemytoast on March 30, 2007, 11:55:57 AM They might say something if it was totaled yes, but other than that they should do it regardless.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on March 31, 2007, 02:30:39 AM Has anyone here had to do the recall AFTER it had already been done? anyone? anyone?
This will become a new topic if i don't get enough responses (waves keyboard threateningly). lol. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Enemytoast on April 02, 2007, 02:57:25 AM What?
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on April 02, 2007, 06:28:35 AM read the first sentence. it's like having to mow your lawn 1 week later.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Enemytoast on April 02, 2007, 07:22:47 AM But what do you mean? Doing the recall after the recall has been done once already? No, they won't do that.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on April 02, 2007, 01:16:17 PM well that sucks.
Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Gr8witeLxi on April 02, 2007, 06:02:50 PM But what do you mean? Doing the recall after the recall has been done once already? No, they won't do that. In Canada.... BUT.. I've heard many cases where it can be recalled more than once in the States. Title: Re: SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN! Post by: Shiano on May 07, 2008, 06:56:31 AM It's in the turn, ONE pop, and only when the elevation is rising. (http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r231/Shiano/bump.jpg) Bump* Update: I replaced the Upper Ball Joint [not the one covered under the recall] and my popping has stopped.
