Title: $1136 later.....................
Post by: sweetbring on March 16, 2007, 06:22:57 PM
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My car is fixed.  The mechanic had to replace the crank and cam pos sensors.  Then he had to replace the whole distributor.  But,  I have a car again.

Well, i had a light on for the cam pos sensor.  It would stay on and go away after a while.  I didn't think nothing of it.  Apparently it was bad and because it was ran so long on the bad cam sensor, the crank sensor went out too.  Somehow all of this had shorted out the distributor.  Shiano, no this does not include all the things that i bought for it.  Yes, i think i got cheated out of a couple hundred bucks, but better buisiness bureau will take care of that.  He also had to put everything back on that i took off, or cut off.  It's all good though.  I have my baby back and she is going to be pampered for a while................until i decide i'm ready to do something else.  It will be summer though, cuz i had my fair share of being cold working on her.

Isn't the cam sensor in the distributor? So why did it cost that much?

aftermarket distributor : $150-250
OEM dealer distributor : $800-900 (why buy???)
crank sensor                : ???? couldn't cost that much

If I were to spend $1100 bucks, I'd expect it to feel like a new car!!

I bought one case once it was gone, I went back to Castrol Full Synthetic.  But when my motor is finally built then It'll be back to Greddy.

well i mean, what improvements did you notice? try to be as specific as possible.

Nothing really LOL.  It seemed to take care of leaking my one and four cylinder.  But Castrol did that too.  It wasn't so much for performance gains, but there was a good write up about the additives in Greddy's 10w60 and how well they protect with high RPM driving.  Thought I'd give it a try.

I'll probably run Castrol during the break in period (cheaper) but once the block is well lubricated and everything is set for the turbo, I'll go back to Greddy.  See if I notice any kind of difference in color and clarity compared to Castrol.

yea you cant replace a cam sensor... you have to replace the distributor. so i hope you didnt pay for them seperately. crank sensor is about 40 dollars.

wait a F***ing minute!!!!! Sweet, remember when you told me you had a cam sensor code? what if that was the little red flag that we were looking for, except we just overlooked it?

$1100 sounds kinda steep, considering I just got done putting a lil over 3 grand in my venge. But that bought me a bulletproof trans, all new mounts, driveshafts, balljoints, calipers an rotors, new main an rod bearings, distributor, plugs an wires, starter, o2 sensors. I think theres a few more things but i cant remember, and i did all the work myself, im sure most of that $1100 was probably labor, a good days work woulda been half of that 1100. I think the shop rate round here is about 55-65 bucks an hour. but i dont trust nobody but me on my car :D

yeah, about 450 was labor.  Yes shiano, the cam sensor was the first thing.  I know i'm a moron.  It's ok.  I defenately learned from my mistakes this time.

As for the oil dispute, go with the generic brand.  Also, get a fram filter.  As for spark plugs, go Bosch.  Geez guys, like it really matters?  8)

dripping or dropping?
....i thought about it...then reconsidered when "dropping" in noun form is..something else.(bird droppings for example)..this shoulda gone to that other topic about local names for popular things.

Post by: Shiano on March 21, 2007, 02:40:53 AM
ah but "dropping" has to be "droppings" in order for it be animal related.

Does it matter?  I don't think I'm partial to acid vs. bird crap in my open wounds.

Title: Re: $1136 later.....................
Post by: JusBringIt on March 22, 2007, 12:49:44 AM
lol...well..if ur wounds arent deep enough to hold the crap...the acid would be very helpful...as for the bird crap..we'll make sure the bird is at least a good 75 miles up in the atmosphere first. ;D
