Post by: craig on February 09, 2007, 04:31:35 AM
i found out tody that i need a new air filter, power steering hose, gas emmissions thing, thermostat and coolant transfer tube. Should i spend the $530 plus tax at the dealership or go to canadian tire and save $150.Im not sure if the dealership uses higher quality parts or if theu are just ripping ppl off.Any suggestions would be great, thanx.

thanx man, those damn blood suckers anyway. They estimated the thermostat at 170 at cdn tire its like 70, the air filter dealer said 60 cdn tire 15,thats why i was wondering about the quality of the parts.

The air filter maybe. But The thermostat has to be ordered from Chrysler as far as I know so

Just be careful at Cdn Tire.  Dave had the flu one year and I got the brakes done on our Jeep there.  They forgot to close the bleeder screw and everytime he hit the brakes he was draining the fluid out.  He called me one day to say he had no brakes and he was going to ease the Jeep home since he almost hit some cars.  If I had been driving I would have been in a very bad accident and I was 7/8 months pregnant at the time.  It wouldn't have been good.  Dealer will soak you for it.  Ask around in your area and see who people use and trust.  The air filter you can do yourself.  (The thermostat you can get at Cdn Tire even.)  What area are you in?

Yea. See thats why I trust my Canadian Tire. because we only let the one mechanic who has been there for 20 years work on it.

Wasn't it that Cdn Tire that forgot to put the oil plug back in and ruined someone's engine?..lol

i complained to the dealer this morning that they decided to pay for my rental and the extra coverage i took out on it,and they said they would chop off 20%,so it worked out ok i guess, the only problem is that some idiot ordered the wrong thermostat and i now have to wait till monday to get it,instead of today

Was someone your Dad knew, Chris.

Good to hear things are under way, Craig.  If you are here in Southern Ontario you'll have to try and make it out to the next time we have a meet... (whenever that is..lol)

Like me :)...

But let see here.. Air filter, the power steering hose, and coolant hose is simple enough to do yourself.. thermostat is at canadian tire (I dont know how hard to do on these cars, never checked, but was easy to do on my last car) ... The emmissions thing was probly the only thing you need to bring it in for... (although i say screw emmissions myself). If you dont have a garage... "car wash"..
or Superstore on Portage (underground parking) ;)...

Also which dealership did you go to?  .. .. .. I went to Eastern Chrysler on Main and it took them 3 days to do a 4-6 hour ball joint job which they also charged me up the A$$.

:D They called for a review on there services haha.. sounded like a cute girl.. so I kept calm but still let her have the dirt. ;)

By the way Canadian tire has been pretty good to me.. they did a oil change and front end inspection and pointed everything out perfectly and didnt try to rip me off like Chrysler did. I always get the same guy to do my car if I need something... I go to the one In KP.

(sorry not done yet lol)

And also, you can get a Chrome Intakes CAI kit for cheaper then the stock air filter. Mitsubishi charges up the A$$ for those filters.

i used to go to the cdn tire at kp,when i had my previous vehicles, they have done a pretty good job.My parents go their too, they had only one complaint(they had gotten their previous car towed their,a lumina, and they said they couldnt find it on their lot and said it must have been stolen by the tow truck. They eventually found it). I thought that was quite comical.
