Title: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: redstar_gearhead on January 26, 2007, 11:37:40 PM I am having problems with my oil pressure gauge. It doesn't idle at a low pressure, but once on the road the gauge doesn't perform like it used to. When I went to Castrol Syntec Blend & Mobil 1 filter it shot that pressure gauge activity way up. :o Hopefully all I have to do it replace my oil pressure sending unit and/or do a oil flush. :-[ What I don't know is: if they can get "lazy" and do just a half-@ss job, or do they just "go out" and stop working. I already bought the sending unit, so when I change it, I'm gonna flush it too. I always keep one eye on it. ;) Just a reminder to not forget those things!
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Enemytoast on January 27, 2007, 06:50:22 PM I just changed with castrol syntec blend and a Fram high mileage filter and now it idles below the line and shoots way up when I rev the engine. Maybe its got something to do with the oil?

Maybe its got something to do with the oil? i wouldnt talk about using fram filters on this site, everyone including me believes that their absolout $hit. stick to mopar or napa(wix)Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Enemytoast on January 28, 2007, 02:14:09 AM I have never liked them either, but my intent was to put some fresh oil and a clean filter in and then change it again in two or three weeks. The last owner never took care of it..... :'( . Its got a fram air filter in it too, but thats only until I get my CAI. I didn't wanna buy a k&n just to throw it out after a few weeks.
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Shiano on February 01, 2007, 12:30:23 AM you used what?!?!?!?
Fram is a four letter f word your mother slapped the s#it out of you for as a kid for saying. please refer to this link: www.howidestroyedmycar.com ok just kidding this is the real link http://asog.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,30/topic,1932.0 (http://asog.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,30/topic,1932.0) check page two for where i start to really contribute on the info. Anyone that tells you F*am is a good oil filter is either ignorant or getting a comission somehow. Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Todd on February 01, 2007, 01:16:33 AM lol. guess i need to finish reading the post before i go clicking on links, lol. shoulda known you'd do something like that, but i couldn't resist the url's name. too funny :D :D
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Shiano on February 01, 2007, 01:31:59 AM it's all about how you word it. see you're not really lazy. it's easier to finish reading the post than to click the link. that requires arm movement.
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: JusBringIt on February 01, 2007, 05:48:42 PM the poor postwhore souls....fram is fine for a couple weeks..unless another brand is cheaper...store brand???? anyway, i dont think the two weeks are gonna rip his engine apart.... :D
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: redstar_gearhead on February 01, 2007, 06:23:54 PM This post is not about oil filters or even the oil you use, it's about the oil sensors and pressure. I both the light and the gauge, and I'm having a problem with my oil pressure according to the gauge. The oil sending unit for the gauge is getting lazy and eventually going to go out, or I have major engine problems. :( We've had lots of bad weather recently so I can't go out to fix it.
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Bad Venge on February 01, 2007, 06:59:15 PM I have exactly the opposite happening ...
Full Synthetic "0" at Idle ... No CEL/ No Oil Light... Step on gas 3/4 Gauge pressure Synthetic Blend Mid gauge at Idle ... Step on gas 3/4 gauge ::) So I skip the Synthetic and run the blend 8) Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: redstar_gearhead on February 03, 2007, 04:58:57 AM That's just it, I use Castrol Syntec Blend 5w30 & a Mobile 1 filter. The oil gauge idles at normal pressure according to my dash gauge. On the road accelerating and decelerating it moves real slow and doesn't ussually get to it's highway pressure position unless I've been diving a while.
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Shiano on February 05, 2007, 01:37:50 AM same filter but switch to Mobil Clean 5000 10w-30 (it's what i use). It's also a blend but a better oil company. worth a shot and it'll probably cost less too.
Title: Re: Keep an eye on that guage! Post by: Aaron on April 13, 2007, 09:17:42 PM I use a full synthetic and never really have a problem. It goes just below the mid line at idle and it goes about half way to a little more than half way when I hit the gas.
