Title: OverDrive Shifting Problems? Post by: Daniel on January 22, 2007, 04:24:25 AM I have a '99 2.5L, my problem is kinda hard to explain, first off when easy driving the trans shifts into o/d always at 40MPH. So first problem is that it never shifts into overdrive until it warms up, and when i'm having to go from a stop quicker than normal it hesitates and shifts back in forth in and out of o/d then finally locks into o/d. I hope this makes since, and hopefully i can get some help. Thanks

Title: Re: OverDrive Shifting Problems? Post by: downer on January 27, 2007, 04:22:10 AM becuase we don't know the answer. ;) the late shifting into overdrive is common, depending on when you mean it warms up. the tcm will hold gears longer when started up cold to warm the fluid. a warm up cycle, but it's usually not noticable unless it's cold out. but it should still shift into overdrive, it will just take a bit longer. can't help you with your other problem.

Title: Re: OverDrive Shifting Problems? Post by: redstar_gearhead on February 02, 2007, 02:45:14 PM I actually have the same problem, but IT IS WINTER..... and I do need a tranny fluid & filter change(it's been 30K since I got my tranny). Once my tranny is warmed up and I've been driving it's not a problem.
Title: Re: OverDrive Shifting Problems? Post by: Daniel on February 06, 2007, 11:44:25 PM Well i have changed the fluid in it with Mopar ATF+4 and a new filter. But even after it warms up and let it shift into overdrive at over normal acceleration it alwys hesitates going into o/d and then finally seems to slip into gear.
Title: Re: OverDrive Shifting Problems? Post by: roger reynolds on February 08, 2007, 04:16:01 PM This is a possibility for you however its really hard to know for fact what the car is doing
when I dont get to test drive it,,, Your car also has a lk up converter,, the stock converter is aprox 2800 to 3000 stall,, ( of course your motor dont make enough torque to stall it up to that) When the converter lks up since it such a slippy converter anyway its much like a actual shift... However your car is programed to not allow converter LK up until a certain engine temp is met, usually around 140 to 160 F* When its colder out side it simply will take the engine longer to get 140 or 160F* and simply put, you may be mistaken LK up converter with shifting into overdrive,, Dont be offended, I see this on a weekly basis at the Transmission shop where a torque converter is broken and cant lk up or Ive had a couple time where a engine thermostat failed in the open position and the engine in the winter never gets to 140 but the complaint is it dosnt shift into Over drive... Hope this helps, it may or maynot be your case,,, Have any questions email... RREYNOLD@NENONET.COM owner of Hannibal Transmission , 604 Race transmissions and 604 quick change gears.. Post by: Leonard on April 23, 2007, 04:39:14 AM There is TSB for shifting when the fluid is colded. I don't know how cold it is were you live? But if you'll driving in snow, you only get the 1st,2nd and 3rd gears. Is the ck engine lite on. If not I would do a trans flush with ATF + 4 and replace the t-stat too. your engine could be running too cold too.
