Title: My turn signals quit working Post by: Spectre on December 13, 2005, 03:06:06 AM Add turn signals to the shortlist of annoyances :-\ They worked one nite but not at all the next morning. I checked the fuse. It was ok but replaced it anyways and still didn't work. 4-ways still work so how much you wanna bet it's the switch inside the steering column? And who wants to bet that the shop is gonna rape my wallet to fix it?
1. turns are totally out *newest 2. horn is totally out 3. driver's side marker light only works if you tap it 4. a really annoying squeak from somewhere inside the car. Title: Re: My turn signals quit working Post by: Darktengu on December 13, 2005, 03:09:38 AM Do it yourself and let the over charging bastards rot. I'm sure there is someone near you that can help for a hell of a lot cheaper. Since your four ways run off a seperate switch, it's possible the wires are shorted in the switch on the column. But my money would be the switch is broken. When you turn your signals on, do you still get the clicking? Or is it all out.
Title: Re: My turn signals quit working Post by: Davedodger on December 13, 2005, 03:45:36 AM If your signals don't work, I'd get your horn working... your going to need it. Use a test light on the wiring at the horn. Disconnect the wiring from the horn, poke your test light into the wiring and ground your test light, hit your horn. If it lights up when you press the horn on the steering wheel, your in great shape. Make sure your horn is grounded good, or you may have to replace your stock horn. Might I recommend a triple air horn set up, got mine at Autozone for $40 or so, or get a stock horn for next to nothing. If it does not light up, make sure your test light is grounded real good. Test light still not working, possible 5 causes. #1. horn not grounded good, #2 blown fuse, #3. bad horn button, #4. short somewhere in wiring from horn button to horn' #5 horn no good.
Title: Re: My turn signals quit working Post by: Spectre on December 16, 2005, 04:35:55 AM Turns out it's the hazzard switch. When the 4 ways aren't on, the power gets routed to the signals. It takes 3-4 days for the part to come in so now she's just sitting in my garage. ::)
Title: Re: My turn signals quit working Post by: Spectre on December 17, 2005, 03:22:00 AM WOW! Maybe I should drop out of school and train to be a mechanic instead. They had me bring my car back today to try something. Repair bill says the following: "Power for Turn signals not going through hazard switch when swithc is in the off position. Worked switch back and forth a few times and now everything is working correctly. If problem returns, it will need a hazard switch". Cost- $68.95 :o
So I paid almost $70 for the diagnosis and them to wiggle the switch back and forth?!?! No f'in way man. >:( Title: Re: My turn signals quit working Post by: Darktengu on December 17, 2005, 03:24:50 AM >:( Yeah that's why I do two things.
1) Try and do it all myself, exhausting everything and every resource I have. 2) Take it to a mechanic I trust not to screw me over. Title: Re: My turn signals quit working Post by: Spectre on December 17, 2005, 03:32:15 AM I suppose from the minute I saw the new LCD tv in their waiting room, I should have taken it as a warning
