Two guys I work with were looking at the 08 Viper in Motor Trend and said 2 things that they believe to be true:
The Viper "only" has a V-10, supposedly smaller than the V-12 it used to have  ::)

The Viper now is made of fiberglass but used to be made of steel and that's why it's so heavy ::)

I'm to lazy to search the internet for proof that it was always fiberglass and a V-10 so I'll just ask you guys to back me up as proof I know what I'm talking about.

viper has always been a v-10, im sure someone will chime in about the fiberglass tho, i have no idea.

Always V10 yep, I actually had a shouting match argument with a guy one day that claimed they had a V8 option.   ::)


The body was a tubular steel frame with resin transfer molding (RTM) fiberglass panels.

yup. chevy guys usually don't know what their talking about unless they own a real car.

i got into an arguement with one of my best friends over the whole v12 thing.  ended up going to the dodge dealer and showin him the motor in the viper up there and collected on the $100 bet me made! ;D  worst part bout it was, he was up there just a few days before buyin his shiny new srt-4 and does know quite a bit bout the whole dodge line up, or at least thought he did!!

Wasn't it the GTS's that came with V8's?

no, all models were always 10 cylinder.

The viper's V-10 motor was originally supposed to be a truck motor when development started, then they got the idea of slapping that puppy in a lightweight FIBERGLASS bodied sports car.

yes, 600...its all that matters...the vette might up it tho..so they gotta keep n eye out..

The same issue of Motor Trend that has the new Viper also has spy shots of a Corvette SS with a supercharger and around 600 horse.  I hope that's not right.

yeah, i saw that and thats what i was thinking about...last thing dodge needs is their lifesaver getting kicked in the ass by chevy.....AGAIN.

sorry about resurecting an old thread, but who has seen the new viper?  i have caught my first glimpse of in in this months car and driver.  punched it out to 8.4 liter and now has 600 horsepower.  can you say wheelspin? 

haha, yeah i saw it, i was thinking of getting vents like those, pretty sweet lookin...but anyway, those 600 horses make for a nice carriage.

Really? I always get people who think they know about cars.  I'm far from the level of knowledge of most of the guys here, but at least I know some things.  Unlike the kid who hates my Avenger and asked if it was a V-4.  I've heard lots of other dumb stuff too.

Yeup! shes got some kinda hybrid motorcycle engine in there ;).. revs to 11000 RPM... sounds mean like a harley. ;)... Belt driven to the chassis... Gots too much power though, belt slips sometime... thats why she dont burn the tires that much ;)

There was rumors about the Viper having a V8 but they decided that the Viper will always be a V10.

v8 in question? why downgrade???? ??? anyway, that snake wont ever be a v8, they'll probably just up the displacement again so the "hiss" alone is enough to scare the competition.
