my speed sensor is out and i was just kinda wondering what speed everyone gets (manual) when their tach says 4500?

also what RPM (5th gear) is 50 mph, 70 mph and 80 mph?

Nykon, your readings might be slightly askew since you drive an eclipse.

well that was actually a compliment Nykon. I've driven a 5spd 420a eclipse and they are ALOT faster so i figured that since there is more HP getting to the ground it would take less time to get to a speed and thus less RPM's.

I am lighter.  I can maybe go grab my old venge for a quick spin tomorrow.

well. since my speedometer sensor is kaput, i have to gauge it based on feel. do i feel i'm going 50 or 60? i know i'm generally a little faster than the flow of traffic so i have to base it on that to and make sure i don't get TOO much faster than the flow of traffic.

Neutral @ 4500 - 0 mph
1st @ 4500 - 23 mph
2nd @ 4500 - 40 mph
3rd @ 4500 - 60 mph
4th @ 4500 - 80 mph
5th @ 4500 - will get back to you, traffic was too heavy, it was raining and my wife was in the car freaking out about going 90 in the rain.   ;D

Aren't the eclipses only like 300 lbs lighter?   So Nykon just needs Jared from Subway sitting in the passenger seat and his car would be as heavy as an avenger.

5th @ 4500 - 103mph

I then ran out of useable freeway due to catching up with traffic.  Got home really quick though.  ;D

Not bad Nykon...  sounds like she would top out 140+   (although these cars aren't all that stable at that speed so I wouldn't advise it)

I went 137 in my V6 Auto and it was scary as hell.

AWESOME!!! It's amazing how if you don't know HOW fast you are going you simply go by what you feel you can control. I still stand by my statement that the V6 gets the same mileage at 100mph that it does at 60mph and would venture to say the 420A gets BETTER mileage at 100 than it does at 60 (based on the fact that I drove for 125 miles round trip that day 110 of which where on the Interstate (freeway) and I only burned 1/8 of a tank! I was highly pleased).

Nykon two last milder speeds needed. 5th @ 3000 and @ 2000 for highway reasons.

and Chris when I had my Venge at 135 it sat down and felt very stable.  Everything tightened up and it was very nice and smooth.

same with the eclipse so far

chris, replace your suspension before you do anything above 95.

how are the v6 and i4 cars limited?  at what speed?

umm. from what i've seen, there's a limiter located between the steering wheel and the accelerator........  ;D

Depends on if its an Auto or Stick I think.  I had my Venge up to 145, the Eclipse only up to 110 so far.

both are 4 cyl 5 spd

any idea what the v6 is limited at?  i have had it at 110 so far, but ran outta road.

Thinking the limiter is around 117-121 mph. Probably wrong, it's been about 5 years since I've seen this subject. We all just got used to how slow our cars are, lol.

ran out of road? there's your limiter. I had my stock 99 ES V6 at 125 once.

ha! i had mine @135...it was night..got scared...eased off the gas. anyway, umm shiano...here's how the mileage thing goes...the higher ur rpms, the lower ur mileage....due to wind resistance...mileage at 60 differs significantly from mileage at 100...if we remove wind resistance..the only thing affecting mileage would be rpms... ;)

My 5th gear at 4500 RPM is about 100 mph (but I have one more gear to go  ;D)

I've only had it up to 120 mph, and that's fast enough. The gov. kicks in at 137 according to someone who tried it.

Governors are weak.

so the auto v6 goes 137 huh i have only had it up to 125 but i better try that out

Very true. Not that I will ever need to go that fast (I said need not want!  ;D) I will probably modify the TSX once the warranty is expired. She will be fast(er) someday  ;D.

resistance isn't the only thing involved. how the transmission is geared is also a factor. under NORMAL circumstances your right. it's kinda like a torque curve only this one after 60 is upside down until you reach 100. the two points are on the same line with each other when it comes to mileage

i know that 80 is about 3200 RPM's. me and my best friend were talking about that over the phone one night. we both looked down and were doing 80 but his was 4000 RPM's.
He drives a Mazda MX6 LS (V6 2.5L) 5spd.
it's all about how they are geared. wind has a more dramatic effect on trucks and Scion Xb's than our cars. ours are more aerodynamically friendly.

different cars go different speeds at different rpms. my dad's galant proved that to me. thanks for the info. i wasnt comparing different models...just the sebring/avenger. i remember going to visist someone....drove really fast all the way...and trust me i was getting a LOT less mileage...my quarter tank was down to the last line within 25-35 miles.

yeah, I told robert that I was doing 3000 RPMs at 80 and he was like "Bro, I would LOVE to be doing 3000 at 80" i asked him how many was 80 and he told me. And that was in 5TH gear. My A604 got better mileage than his 5spd. go fig.

yeah bringing the MPG factor, when I went to Florida from Virginia (about 1300miles) i got about 490miles/tank  where i usually get 380miles/tank driving on daily basis  (i got 4cyl and manual)

and i've gotten about to 110mph on my car but didnt want to go faster and risk it, especially being in a different state like Georgia :P

I think i need to lower my car little bit because when i get to about 80mph my car starts to shake little bit and steering wheel gets annoying after a while with that constant shake.  But sometimes when i get to like 90mph car feels smooth.  Wiiiiiierd  :P

have your tires rotated and balanced first Ivan. and an alignment wouldn't hurt.

LOL    I did that in my old avenger.  96 V6 auto with Eibach Pro-kit springs + KYB-AGX struts set 3/4 front 6/8 rear

The car itself felt suprisingly stable @ 137 MPH just the fact that I could go that fast was scary as hell.  Should have been more specific.

i dont think its alignment problem, i think its just the fact that my car sits on stock hight with stock 14" wheels with hub caps....  :-X

By the way i made a video back in 2003 driving my cobra on the autobahn with 2 CARRERA GTs. I have something for the supercars now. Its actully funny to see some of the facial expressions.

Keep in mind that was in my old 99 cobra - N/A. Blown and pullied with my 2003 and a few other tricks.

peak effeciency is (ussually) ~2500 rpm, so no matter what gear 2500 is going to be where you want the needle to sit. and alot of TOTAL mpg is HOW you get to the speed. if you floor it to top gear and then sit it at 2500 your total MPG is gonna suck, if you slowly accellerate to top gear your overall mileage will be better. for example i drove the same speed for two gas cycles, but i accellerated differntly one week balls to the wall up to 65(fun as hell btw) got about 24 mpg, accellerated slowly the next week(zzzzzzzz) and i got nearly 30 mpg, yes wind comes into play so 1st gear at 2500 gets better MPGs than 5th gear at 2500, but thats a slow way to get where you need to go.

I have a few no speed limit autobahns here. The traffic flow allows for high speed driving. I recently got 508 miles from one tank. That was a lot of cruising at 75mph. I will just do a 3 mile sprint or so.

i want to go fast and not be worrying about getting a speeding ticket. 75 is about the FASTEST we can go around here, and from what i hear you go 75 on the autobahn you're one of the slow people. ah...autobahn, someday ill fly to germany and go 160 and wave at the cop as he does nothing. well ill let the passenger wave, ill drive. last thing i want to do at 160 miles an hour is take my hands off the wheel.

Keep in mind that was in my old 320 hp '99 cobra in 4th gear - no turbo or supercharger. Now supercharged and pullied with my 2003 cobra - plus a few other tricks - over 525 HP/503 lb/ft rear wheel torque.

i have my smart moments. few and far between though they may be.

2500 rpms....how do u manage to get 2500rpms = peak efficiency?....if ur at 2500 rpms in 1st....ur gonna be going a lot slower..there are a lot more things affecting mpg. u have to combine the speed, the rpms (which then generate what gear ur in. and 2500 rpms in fifth...ur usually going faster...so calculate it this way...i drive for one hour at 2500 rpms in first at about 20 mph...u go twenty miles. do that in fifth at about 70 mph..u went seventy miles..and thats with the same amount of gas. dont floor it b/c u stay in the lower gears too long, thats y city mileage is worse than highway...

let me rephrase that, engines like to run at 2500, anything lower and they try to run rich, anything higher and they try to run lean(computer control and better technology has made it less obvious, but its still there at some level)

or at least in my experience, i have an old nova with an exhast leak(right infront of firewall so you could smell every drop of exhaust, which is why i drove with the windows down most of the time) and at 1500 you could smell the unburt gas. at 3500 you could definitly tell it was leaning out...and i had a corsica, that had the same problem(though it didnt have a tach you can still tell) low RPM rich, high RPM lean. 2500 was the magic number for 2 cars, or maybe it only chevys. or maybe my chevys were weird, i know the nova is, and the corsica was a POS. sold the corsica for 300$ and ripped those people off. eh, it was a good beater. ah, nostalgia. anyway, 4000-4500 are ussally the most powerful, and 2500 is generally the most effecient. again this has been my experience. i could be way off. but i like to think that my experiences have been worth something.

Just remember PLEASE to have your passenger [preferrably] record your speed at 4500 in 5th.

peak mpg = lowest resistance, lowest revs, most power, fastest wheel spin.

which is about 32-3500 in the i4 5spd

No worries. lol. Good job btw. with the Avenger, if your passenger is in the 1/4 of a backseat filiming over your shoulder, that will give you the best shot of both the tach, speedo, and the road. If it's at night, that will give the best shot also HOWEVER, due to animals, i DON'T recommend finding this out at night. lol

I will either have a passenger or use a tripod. The Avenger is not stable at high speeds. Up to 120 MPH its ok but when you travel this fast you always need room to STOP and sometimes unexpectedly. My Avenger does not have ABS so please be patient. I need low traffic and dry roads. My Cobra can sprint up to 160 - 175MPH in a fairly short distance so I may add a few videos as well for your entertainment.

Remember to be safe and keep your driving records clean. I am safe also. It may look easy but I have been driving here for nearly half of my life.

Its fixed. I will let you know the RPM in 5th at 120 MPH. I will let you know the speed (MPH) in 5th gear @4500 rpm also in about an hour or so on my way to work. I will post the findings as soon as possible.

I missed driving the Avenger. That cobra of mine is entirely to loud and extremely overpowered for driving to and from work.

As promised I would safely let you know. I had to do it on the way home from work. I actually got going from a 80 MPH cruise and by 120 I looked down and saw 5500 rpm. It could definately go faster. Possibly to 135mph before redline. As I slowed from 120mph I noted 4500 rpms at 100 mph. I was happy to drive the avenger again. I was going to sell it recently. After checking out the forums I have other intentions. Thanks to you guys my car is back in the fast lane!!!!! I hope my cobra doesn't get jealous.

eh i don't think the cobra would mind, my car is a bit jealous, had her on the interstate yesterday and got her up to 85 and she wanted much more. i was sad when i was reminded where i live by the cherries and blueberries that had got the last poor soul who tryed to test his ride.

actually it was. lmao. it's amazing how natural it felt for me to be going that fast though... AND i know there is hope for my engine because it asked me to push it a little more.
