Post by: Keith Portillo on October 01, 2006, 11:17:46 PM Hey guys I just noticed my reverse lights arent coming on in reverse, i replaced the bulbs and nothing, i checked the fuse and it looks good, so am i missing something, i came across the back up light switch at parts store is that typically a proble and is it worth the $20 to try it? if so where is the switch located and how do i know if it is bad or not, thanks in advance...

Title: Re: back up light switch??? Post by: Keith Portillo on October 02, 2006, 06:03:04 PM so how do you know if its the switch thats bad and does it go bad often?
i mean like is there a way to adjust it or something?? Title: Re: back up light switch??? Post by: Darktengu on October 02, 2006, 07:23:46 PM I would take a couple of small wires, attach one to the power and one to the ground on the battery. Then insert the power into one inlet and the ground into the other (on the plug) see if your back up lights come on. If they do then it's your switch.
I haven't had a problem with my back up lights, and I don't take any responsibility if something goes wrong. It's just what I would try. Actually I'd probably just buy the switch for 20 bucks, and try it that way. Title: Re: back up light switch??? Post by: Whailin on October 05, 2006, 04:33:05 AM i just replaced mine a month ago or so. Its a pretty easy fix, if you have the right size end wrench, or a crescent works too. But make sure you clean off around it really good before you take it out. Don't want that grease and dirt to fall into your tranny.
If you want to test it un-plug it(assuming you know where it is), unscrew it, plug it back in and push the ball in while having someone stand behind the car. If the light doesn't come on then unplug the sensor and jump the two wires, then see if the lights come on. If they come on the second time then the sensor is bad. Or you could just leave it in and unplug it and jump the two wires. If the light works when you do that then more than likely its the switch on the tranny. Make sure that when your buying one that it is the right one, i noticed at napa the avenger sebring and eclipse all had different switches listed in their computer, only the one for the avenger i believe had the right plug. Sorry my posts are always wordy... Title: Re: back up light switch??? Post by: Keith Portillo on October 10, 2006, 01:04:14 PM Ok I replaced it and the lights still dont work, I really need to get these working cause my car has to be inspected to get it registered and right now its overdue, when you say jump the two wires does that mean just run a wire from one whole on the plug to the other???? or do I have to do a gound and 12v?? Please let me know, thanks
