Title: Another 'No Start' Problem!
Post by: Sagath on July 14, 2006, 09:16:23 PM
Car was running fine. No idling problems or running problems. I pulled in at home, shut off the car for about 5-10 min, came back out and tried to start it.
The car turned over for about 1/2 a second, then it cut out.

I thought that was wierd, so I turned it off, then moved it back into accessory. My cd player came on (and amp, and subs), but the dash lights are really really low. If I turn it to start, I can hear the relay clicking but the starter isnt doing anything. I havnt done any other types of tests because its 41c out here today with the humidity. Later tonight I'm going to make sure with a Voltmeter that my battery Voltage is fine (I'm assuming it is).

Judging from some of the other 'no start' problems listed here the likely faults are what? Battery, Powertrain Control Module, Timing Belt jumping or the Starter itself?

Is there anything else it might be? I'm trying to narrow this down before I have to get it towed to the shop (probably several hundred dollars to the nearest shop for me)

Thanks for your help

take your battery cables off the battery.
soak them in coca cola over night
rinse off with water
reinstall

if that doesn't work, let us know.

and/or check the ASD relay, but due to the dash lights dimming I am guessing battery cable ends are really corroded.

checked it with a voltmeter, and it was only ~10v. Got it boosted from a friend, and she turned over no problem. So it looks like the battery is dead. Relief on my part I'll tell you. I guess the extreem heat just fried a cell or something

Battery cable ends are good, I cleaned them about a year ago, I appreciate the help Nykon. I'm glad it was only the battery.

Cool, glad to hear it wasn't something more complicated.
