ST sends me the right springs.....
« on: April 03, 2007, 08:54:11 PM »

so after 3 weeks of dealing with people at Sus techniques, they send the right springs, along with spec sheets, which confirmed the right measurements, but also confirmed that the first set of springs were the right ones as well! so my car either didnt' bottom out and my dad's crazy or there's something messed up with my suspension that i dont know about. why would a car with new struts and springs bottom out? there's no way to mix the rears up with the fronts, cause they wont fit. these are the springs made for a 1.4" drop in a v6 avenger. any ideas? got agx struts, i double checked the part numbers.

Did you cut some material off the bump stops?
You should.
I bet he is correct and its bottoming out on the bumpstops.

maybe, but that'd only be like an inch of suspension play, which doesnt sound too good for a 1.4" drop.........

Undecided yes  What were you expecting. The car starts out with only a few inches, then you take 1.4" away from that...

Its the bump stops..
Plus its a v6 which we all know is heavier. Not sure which ST springs you got but I bet they are for the eclipse/4cyl avenger which really require different spring rates than the lighter cars. So your 1.4" drop on a v6 could be a 2" drop. Then a few inches of suspension play minus 2" is not much...

suspension tech only sells one set for the venge. people on asog and asec who have v6's say their springs settled at 1.75" after a few weeks. so they're not 4 cylinder springs. it probably is the bump stops, but i'll have to see. my dad said he dropped a neon 2.5" and it bottomed out on a hill crest and cracked the oil pan. i think he's just paranoid that it'll happen to the venge, he didnt measure the actual drop, maybe he's just not used to seeing lowered cars....i dunno Huh

If there is only 1 part number for the avenger.
I can almost guarantee its an eclipse spring that is meant to be used on the 4cyl avenger/sebrings.
But a decent quality spring should work on the v6 models without serious issues.
