My baby, (99 Avenger w/V6 and auto tranny, 33K miles) has been sitting for a few months because of the cold weather. I started it and let it warm up for a few minutes. I was going to drive it today but it won't shift gears and the speedometer stays at zero while I'm moving. I couldn't go very fast because of it taching at over 3g's. The engine later stalled while coasting through a curve but I restarted it. Shortly after that I got a "service engine soon" light. I then parked it. I don't know if this is tranny or engine related problems. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Likely a tranny issue. I'm not overly familiar with the A604 since I have the manual tranny. But it sounds like Limp mode. A common problem with your transmission type. Take it to Autozone or Advance Auto to get a diagnostic scan (it's free!)

Definately sounds like "limp mode" for the transmission. I'm not quite sure about the speedometer not moving.

speedometer....probably stuck. u can try taking the face off and giving it a push start. other serious issues would be a bad speed sensor.

I called a mechanic and he said it sounds like a speed sensor. It's going to his shop tomorrow.
Thanks for your replies.

I forgot to mention...I took Darktengu's advice. I took it to Auto Zone and I got three error codes from the diags. Vehicle Speed Sensoe Malfunction, Tranny System Control Malfunction, and Gear 1 Ratio Incorrect.
Time for some maintenance!

don't forget about that little Tranny solenoid that Chrysler NEVER (on pain of death) mentions that solves what comes with a rebuild.

replace the input and output speed sensors. only one is the problem but you might as well replace both.
Simple fix, takes like 5 minutes if your handy.

LOL time for a new gauge cluster. eBay 20-50 bucks. Or Nykon is whoring himself out BIG time for parts.

Or Nykon is whoring himself out BIG time for parts. all you need to do is remove the cluster and clean out the pressure contacts on the rear of the unit. just a little sand paper will do. also make sure when its replaced its fully seated and secured. No need to buy a new one.
