- You need to get rid off of the clear coat completelly
- Use a DA sander (round 6inch i believe) to prep large areas; and use sanding paper and/or scuffing "sponge" to ruff up tricky areas like dips, curves and etc.
- The reason you want to ruff up (little bit ruff on soft touch) the old paint is so that either primer or paint can stick easilly and will not peall off or bubble out
- Bondo any dents, scratches or imperfections (spell check haha) so that the area resembles smooth body shape, line, or curve, and then sand it again

- You need to mask off any glass, plastic, weather stripping, and etc. so you dont paint over them
This is a basic prep-work... to give you a hint on whats to be done. There are many more steps to get a good paint job result.
