wiper arm removal??
« on: November 29, 2006, 02:48:59 AM »

Is there some sorta magical, hidden secret to removing the wiper arms from an Avenger  Huh? I'm wanting to repaint mine and have had no luck with removing them. I've removed the nut that holds it on the bolt, but when I attempt to remove the wiper arm it doesn't budge. Am I missing something or do they just tend to get really, really ceased up over time? Used WD-40, but nothing doing.

Use power blaster.  Spray it on, wait 30 minutes or so, and then just wiggle them until they come off.  They are  a pain in the ass.  Also before you get them off take a dry erase marker and mark your windshield where they sit so you get them back in the right spot.

the wiper arms are aluminum the studs they are mounted on are steel ...The metals corrode over time ....I had to use a two armed puller to break mine loose ...Be sure to put some antiseize on the stud when reinstalling it'll prevent removal troubles next time ...

GREAT!! I'll finally be able to get my wiper arms back to looking good. They look like crap rite now. I'll make sure to do what y'all have recommended and let cha know how everything went. Prob won't be able to do it for another week or so tho  Sad.

Btw, Nykon, great advice about marking the placement before removing. I'd never thought about doing that, and prob woulda regretted it after the fact.

Or just leave them on to paint, I did. Use lots-o-newspaper and masking tape, then throw some plastic over the hood and roof. I used a semi gloss black enamel spray paint. Year and a half, still look great. Just another option.

True, but I'd prob end up with over-spray every where since I don't have a garage to do it in. Ah well, such is life… I'll prob just attempt to remove them again. See what happens. If no luck still, I'll def consider doing it the Davedodger way  Smiley.

I was trying to get mine off about four months ago. i used PB blaster I used pullers everything I still couldn't get those things off. Maybe I'll try again one day when I have nothing better to do.

they are a booger. i've had my windshield replaced before, and homeboy that did it didn't seem to act like they were that difficult to remove. of course, that was quite a while back tho. hopefully the pb blaster will work for me—whenever i finally get a chance to try it, that is.
