Air Condition Problems
« on: September 17, 2006, 01:31:23 AM »

Ok, so I just got a '95 avenger 4-cyl, the a/c didnt work when I got it but i looked at the compressor and the clutch came on when i turned the a/c on so i figured it still worked but was out of freon.  I bought some to try it and put just 12oz. in and the oil, stop leak, etc.  Anyways worked good and was nice and cold.  two days later while driving, about 5 minutes into the ride the a/c stopped blowing cold completely.  I figured that it must be a leak problem.  After reaching my destination and being there for 1hr I left and the a/c was just as cold as the day i recharged it???  then of course after 5 minutes of driving it stopped working again.  This makes me believe its not really a leak problem.  Does anybody have any ideas?Huh I am stumped on this one.  It might be since I only put one can in but it is still kind of weird and I dont want to keep putting freon in if it is something else  Huh

ok now the air isnt cutting off, or hasnt yet since yesterday, but now after I let off the gas to hit the brakes or to get ready to downshift, MY CAR SHUTS OFF!!! so far it just starts right back up, but when I let off the gas the RPMs go all the way to 0 and it shuts off, it doesnt do it all the time but it only happens when the a/c is on, any ideas now, my CEL is on and is showing 11,12,21, & 25 i believe

11-Timing, or CrankPS/CamPS
12-Battery (Don't worry it's common just means that you have dissconnected your batter)
21- 02 sensor
25-Vaccum leak, or IAC is bad

Take it to AutoZone to get a more Detailed readout.  Did you remove any hoses at all?  I'd check the sensor first, Nykon can get you a good price on one.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

i just got the car so I have no idea about removed hoses, it has an aftermarket intake just a rubber/plastic tube with cone filter, also I am noticing when the car is at idle for no reason the rpm will either drop and cut off or will go up and down for a second and then cut off   =  any ideas now?

That sounds like a vaccum issue to me.  You'll have to look for hoses that aren't connected.  Or the little elbow hose that sits on top of the TB will crack.  Check that.  Your other best bet is find someone near you that can troubleshoot well.  Post up where you're from and see if there's a member in your area.  Even if they don't know much you can compare engine bays.

Ok now I am realizing the car is stalling with or without the a/c on, the only broken hose is the one from the intake tube to the top of the valve cover (not the PCV tube) if that is a problem then I will take care of it but I dont think that is it, So far I have heard TPS, clean out throttle body, and replace ECM - so now I would like to narrow it down to just one if I could before I start spending money

Clean the throttle body, always start cheap and then go expensive, don't start replacing ECMs all willy nilly now.  I would start with the cleaning, then move to the IAC or TPS.
