I just bought a 97 avenger 2.5 V6, it had a bad trans (imagine that) I bought a junkyard trans and installed it yesterday. The trans shifts well but seems like it jerks a little when downshifting into first. I have a code 14 (MAP related ) I need to check out, could this affect the trans? I havent put many miles on it yet and from what I understand the trans has to relearn shifting after disconnecting the battery, is this true? Any help is appreciated!
I dont believe trans has to relearn how to shift..never had that problem n i have disconnecte my battery a LOT of times. Other than that, Im not sure, when u say jerks, do u mean it kinda lunges ?-like ur rpm goes a bit higher than normal. or what.
yes, if power is disconnected long enough it will revert back to the default shift maps..then adjust shift patterns based on driving style. sounds like you are getting more of a bump shift, not sure how to get rid of that though. you may be able to get the tcm reflashed with the newer software. probably best to get your map problem sorted out first.

I replaced MAP sensor and cleared code, the downshift is still the same. When I said it jerks into first, what I meant was it is not smooth like an auto more mechanical like a standard shift, and the RPMs seem correct. I'm going to get some miles on it and check on getting the TCM reflashed.
