...aaand now it misfires
« on: June 06, 2006, 04:32:36 AM »

Today I drove to and from school (over 35min. each way) then to work and everything was honky-dorry. When I started the car at work to come home it immediatley set into a real choppy idle and the exhaust sounded like a mix between a WWII era B-17 and a UPS truck.

Only thing I can possibally think of that caused this was last Thursday I was caught in a sudden downpour and couldn't avoid a big puddle. It didn't stall or anything at the time, but could this just be caused by some water in the oil or was that long enough ago that it's from something else.  I'll have to take it to a mechanic but it's weird how it just popped out of nowhere.

Stop taking your car to a mechanic!  Bring it to me, I'm cheaper.  It'll only be cost of gas, and we can get it fixed!

The puddle is possible, but not likely this long after.

Misfire is usually cause by:

Failure to Spark
-Bad Plug
-Bad Wires
-Bad Distributor
-Bad connections
-Bad Computer
-Water in combustion chamber

Lack of Fuel
-Back injector

Loss of compression
-Piston rings are shot
-Head gasket is shot

I think that's all of it, all are easy for you to "see" what's your CEL saying?

I have to do key dance to see if that can help narrow it down but i'm so busy this week I only had time to check the spark plugs on the front bank.  I'll have to try Friday to dig around to eliminate the electrical aspect of things.

I doubt it's from water injestion too, but I searched and one result says that it was a possibility so thought I'd throw it out there.

Thanks guys!

Turns out the hydrolic timing belt tentioner failed and allowed the belt to jump teeth.  I never would have guessed that!  It's a good thing I didn't drive all the way up to Green Bay with bad timing  Cheesy

When will crap quit breaking on me???

My soon-to-be wife always says that "bad things come in threes." Hopefully, this is the third thing that has broken.

At least you know we will be here for support!

That's pretty cool, glad they didn't charge you crazy for the work done.  Of course they must have already put a kid or two through college on your dime.
