2000 avenger starting problems

 i have a 2000 2.5 the problem started with the car dying while driving it. it did this once then i started it after playing the stereo for a while it was fine. then i did  it to leave it would turn over but not start. a couple hours later it started drov it half way home around 3/4 miles then it stoped again. had it towed home next moring i went out and its has not odne it again yet. any ideas on what is the casue? any help would be apreciated

nope no check light as of yet
i did find that the pos cable contection had broke after i replaced it it ran fine untill i shut it off then it wouldnt start up after set for maybe hour to hour and half then ran for maybe 3 or 4 miles

Bad alternator.  Take it in get it tested.  You battery may hold a small enough charge for you to start it and drive short distances.  Then the alternator only charges it a bit and the car dies.

had alt and bat checked they said bat had low charge and i put a new one in day before this started
 ive put  a new fuel filter on and it seemd fine for an hour but then started acting up again

Try the sensor "wiggle" method. Just shake each sensor under the hood until the car runs funny. That would be the faulty sensor. I had the TPS go out on my 2000 Sebring. Give it a try!

If you just had a new one put in, and the problem started right after, that's where I would look.  Check the connection for the battery posts.  Are the posts loose?  Is it a no-maintainence battery or do you have to add water?  Bring it back to the place you got the battery from and tell them what the deal is.

Also what did they say about the alternator?  Did you take it out and bring it in, or did they just put a volt-meter on your battery when the car was running?
